Was there this much fuss with the other waves??

By BCooper85, in X-Wing

Hey guys,

I wasn't around these parts when the other waves were released but wave 4 seems to be causing quite the stir! Did the other waves cause this much fuss?

Depends on what you mean by "fuss". I think FFG is starting to open up the design space a bit further than has previously been the case, and I think some of the stronger reactions (both positive and negative) are due to that change.

Personally, my only beef is that I wish they'd slow down the release schedule a bit. But "I'm getting too much cool stuff!" isn't really much of a complaint...

It is when funds are an issue my friend!

By fuss I mean I've heard things like 'the new ships are OP' and 'These new ships make the old ships redundant'.

Yes, with every single wave.

[*Not everyone who is concerned or dissatisfied is wrong or a troll, and I want to note that explicitly. But there are a lot of hyperbolic kneejerk reactions right now, which I think table experience and adaptations in the metagame will soothe in time.]

So what was the Fuss like when the slave and falcon were first released

There was definitely a lot of fuss in wave 2 that stealth devices were going to be too powerful on interceptors....that falcons were wayy too good, assault missiles killing the swarm, etc. Ummm, wave 3 had people tripping and all concerned with the lambda that it would be too good, and that the b-wing was "too good". So they all have had something..

With that said - it's never been as bad as this - because there's never been a ship like the phantom that forces you to play a different style than "As many ships as possible" to "upgrades and named pilots" to get that 'edge' against the phantom

I think the game is getting progressively more popular, with more people using this board regularly. In that way there is more fuss.

I just want to say one thing. This game ROCKS! :D

So glad there is finally a great star wars miniature game. I was waiting my whole life to fly x wings against the empire!

Ok, with that being said, as soon as ffg releases the tiniest bits of detail about new upgrades / ships / pilots you are going to see a whole bunch of threads spring up with all kinds of debates / opinions / new combos. It's new stuff and people are excited to field it and guess how the game meta will change. I will say this though: new combos are growing exponentially as new upgrades are released (for example: a new EPT comes out / there is a chance that every pilot with EPT now has a neat new combo).

BIG ships will utterly destroy the game and that **** Falcon can shoot anywhere it wants to...so and so... Blah... Blah... Blah.

Did you watch the same wonderful films I watched?

If so, why are you being an ass?

Do... you... love... X-WING... or... not?

You have to just laugh at them and move on.

I have learned to ignore this stupidity and hate very easily.

There are after all only a few schmucks here.

Considering what gets posted at some other forums this is a great place IMO and most of us are pretty **** good people.

:)

Yeah I have noticed that too.

We can deal...

:)

So what was the Fuss like when the slave and falcon were first released

"Falcons destroy the spirit of the game because the turret means you can practically ignore the maneuver phase" and "the Firespray's rear firing arc is OP." There was more fuss around the Falcon than the Firespray, because of the turret.

Then the Falcons dominated the meta for a while before people learned to fly against them. And while they're still very powerful ships, we now know they're not unbeatable.

You can't please everyone, and there will always be a lot of fuss on a new wave release for a game. It also doesn't change matters that the negative can usually be the most vocal, sometimes for just cause. However in this game, things tend to not be such a level of good vs bad, as most things are pretty normal.

I will say, from playing with the wave 4 ships yesterday in a couple games. The Defender will take some getting used to, but it is fairly durable and not overly hampered by it's dial, though the tight turns as red makes for a lot more thought on action, and I found the white K turn ended up being a go to move, as it needed to move so fast all the time, it's like trying to control a really fast car on a tight track, but it doesn't have the best handling. Where as the Squints are a fast car, with really good handling. Overall, I think I'll grow to like it.

The Phantom, saw echo twice, he/she was pretty amazing. I think I can say beyond doubt after reading about it and playing with it, the Phantom is the winner of this wave so far.

Wasn't too impressed with the Z 95 and E wing, I think the humble tie fighter still is going to be the go to swarm ship, and the E wing leads to over costing a bit too easily, for little gain. I may just be overly critical, but in two games that is what I was left feeling.

I think the growing fanbase makes each new wave/release seem 'bigger' and have 'more fuss'.

But it's just more people playing the game and being vocal about it.

Bigger pond, bigger splashes.

To me wave 2 will always be when they started to...

PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT! LIMIIITT!

The sky already fell below the ground before wave 4, at least if this forum is what you use to judge that

I think the biggest problem or issue is many players get themselves stuck on a certain style of play or tactic, and when the FFG boffins see how the game is being played, they invariably throw something different into the mix to restore some balance. Their goal is to create a game that has an equal chance of being won by either side.

Every wave has added something new and exciting to the game. We saw the TIE swarm dominate for a while and now they've introduced a cheap Rebel counter in the form of the Z-95.

The 'fuss' is usually coming from those players that can't adapt to the new additions. The excitement comes from those who can.
