A more unpredictable phantom?

By Char The Comet, in X-Wing

I was wondering with the phantom if anyone has run "Whisper" or "Echo" with an advanced sensor, Engine upgrade, and Dare Devil. I can see it being fun but you would lose out on adv. Cloaking. Also being stressed could be a problem unless you reveal a green maneuver.

I think too many maneuvers past a certain point introduces too much margin for error. Even the best of us can only eyeball things oh so accurately before there's a problem.

I ran echo with advanced sensors. It was only used once in the game but allowed for a range one shot in the flank. All those cards add to the flexibility of the phantom, however means you are more likely to have an unfocused attack.

I just ran Echo for 6 games at regionals and the only reason I would run advanced sensors is to get out of the way of an asteroid. And then you only need to worry about it if you misjudge your move. Echo is a beast when you run him well. I had Intel agent, Adv Cloak and Vet Instincts. VI and ACD are a must. There are just too many high PS pilots that will wreck you if you leave him at 6. IA was nice at times when I needed to know where that high skill pilot would end up, but I think Tactician for one more point would have been better. All in all, Echo has a very high learning curve. It wasn't until game 4 of 6 that I really started to use him to his full potential ( only had a few test games with him ). I think he could be devastating but he really needs a good supporting cast.
