Awesome Combos

By ghaerdon2, in X-Wing

I don't know if this has been done but has anyone collated some of the best combos out there? If so I'd love a link.

My combo skill is low, I get overwhelmed by the choice and my brain seems to go into slow mode when trying to get lists going with awesome combos.

So maybe you could list a few of your favourite combos, not entire builds, but just the meat. And maybe show the point cost.

Flechette + Munitions Failsafe = "I don't care if I hit, you're still getting stressed"
Fire Control Systems + Gunner = "My 2nd attack is always Target Locked"
Heavy Laser Cannon + Merc Co-Pilot + Merc Co-Pilot = "I hit you with 4 dice at Range 3, and two of the Hits become Crits'

Ion Cannon + Tactician/R3-A2 = "Get Ioned and Stressed in one attack".

Adv Sensors + Engine Upgrade = "Boost (and/or Barrel Roll) before you move, to appear everywhere at once"
Adv Sensors + Phantom = "Cloak then Decloak before I move, to get ANYWHERE". 7 Koiogran, natch!
Anti-Pursuit Lasers + Navigator + Int. Agent = "I see where you're going, and I get in the way every time, and you take damage, lose your action, can't shoot at my ship, and are separated from the battle at large. Every turn."

Large Base Ship + Expert Handling = "My barrel-rolls can take me to Range 1 from Range 4."

Just a few off the top of my head:

Colonel Jendon (26) w/ Weapons Engineer (3), ST-321 title (3)

32 pts, 2 target locks from anywhere on the board, gives one away. Good support for bombers.

Wes Janson (29) w/ Veteran Instincts (1)

Wedge Antilles (29) w/ Opportunist (4), R2 Astromech (1)

64 pts, hard-hitting combo. Wes shoots first, strips focus or evade. Wedge follows up with a punishing +1 attack, -1 agility to the target. R2 allows him to shed stress & do it again next round.

Any TIE Interceptor or A-Wing with Push the Limit (3), but especially Soontir Fel (27), Turr Phennir (25), or Tycho Celchu (26). These ships have 8 green maneuvers each, never sweat the stress. Soontir & Turr get effectively 3 actions each, Tycho can use actions while stressed.

B-Wings w/ Advanced Sensors (3). Just try it, they're awesome!

Lando Calrissian (44) w/ Nien Nunb (1)

45 pts, (probably want other upgrades as well) Extra green maneuvers for action passing.

Seriously, B-Wings with Advanced Sensors! :)

All I've got right now, but there are many others...

Hope this helps!

Turr Phennir (or some schmuck flying alongside Airen Cracken) + Push the Limit = "I get 2 free actions mid-combat to hit you as hard as I can and then get out of your firing arc"
Soontir Fel + Push the Limit = "2 actions and a free Focus Token, sil vous plait" (Soontir Fel is terrible at French)
Interceptor + PTL = "Ow. Where the hell did you come from?"
Interceptor + Opportunist when flying next to Interceptor + PTL = "OW. SONofa"

Tarn Mison + R7 ... if you shoot me I automatically get a target lock on you, then use it to make you reroll your hits. :)

R7 + FCS = I shoot at you, and you have a hard time shooting back

Bacon, lettuce and tomato.

Bacon, lettuce and tomato.

What's the points cost on that? Mmm... Free lunch action... :)

On a more serious note, I played against a Han w/ marksmanship and Luke crew combo that was a pain in the arse....

Ten Numb (31) w/ Autoblaster (5) ripped a few of my TIEs new ones. Tricky to use at only range 1, but one crit & all hits cannot be cancelled by evade dice... Scary stuff, kids!

I did take him out with Krassis Trelix (36) w/ Heavy Laser Cannon (7), a slippery tank with 4 attacks @ all ranges & a reroll @ range 2-3... Krassis actually did all my killing that game (still won! Like me some Firespray now)

It's a secondary weapon, but you can discard it to discard all damage cards on your ship, or discard it to heal an ally at Range 1 by half of their hull value.

But only if you have a minigun as your primary.

I'm afraid there's no such thing as a free lunch action.

and still no one has mentioned the traditional Garven + Dutch wave 1 bromance

French fries covered in chili and cheese is a great combo.

Upcoming Rebel Aces (sorry, this is a build because it's what provides the combo):

- Dutch Vander (shares a target lock as an action)

- Wes Janson (strips a focus or evade from defender when attacking)

- Keyan Farlander (BWing, can remove stress when attacking and use it as a focus) with Opportunist (accept stress to add 1 attack die if defender has no evade or focus) and Heavy Laser Cannon (4 attack at range 2-3)

So Dutch gives Keyan a target lock, Wes strips a focus or evade off a target, and Keyan attacks with 5 dice with target lock+focus combo every round.

I've been trying this combo and it is a very. nasty. squad.

This! And then consider slipping in Colonel Vessery in his TIE Defender together with those bombers. Both colonels happens to have PS 6. Move Vessery first, then Jendon and let him take a target lock on the poor bastard that is currently smack in Vessery's sights - and viola Vessery now also has a target lock for his attack. Toss an Outmaneuver at Vessery and watch enemies melt away.

Now give the bomber(s) a bomb or an assult missile - helps force the enemy formations apart for Vessery to play in all their blind angles.

One combo I'm looking forward to trying is a shuttle alongside a flanker with Outmaneuver.

The weakness of the shuttle is its poor maneuverability if the enemy gets behind it. Likewise, Outmaneuver is nullified if the enemy turns to face the flanker. By having both together, you force the enemy to choose between being Outmaneuvered, or staying within the shuttle's arc for longer.

YT1300 with MF title and C-3P0 crew. Take evade and guess 0; you're garaunteed two evades.

If you have a transport, use Hobbie with R3-A2.
Target lock as his action, shoot the guy, both of you receive stress tokens, use target lock to clear your stress. Repeat as necessary. Really makes it hard for the empire's super-nimble ships to outmaneuver you when they get no red moves.
To make it worse, throw in Dutch to pass TL's just in case

Ten Nunb with Ion Cannon + Ethan Abaht= Guranteed ions every time Ten shoots

An even better combo is Hobbie+R3-A2+Flachette. I LOVED the look on my friend's face when I attacked him and managed to *double stress* his Squad Leader-carrying Howlrunner with this combo.

He also hated the nasty little surprise of Tarn Mison armed with an Advanced Proton Torpedo. I knew that little trick would only work once, but he attacked me at long range with Soontir Fel, and I got a target lock on him, and then the next turn I guessed where he was going to go and one-shot him with the torpedo. I wished I'd been in range to attack him with Hobbie, because I'd have loved to do that to the action-loving Interceptor, but in the end he still died.

I agree about C3P0 it's really annoying, I think people that are defending it are so quick to scream at people they think are attacking the game they love.

The argument that it makes good business sense is irrelevant to me, I am not a business I'm a consumer and "good business sense" translates to lack of respect for customers.

Can you not see that if someone doesn't want to play epic but uses falcon builds in tournaments could be quite annoyed by having to spend millions of pounds for C3P0? Really you can't see that?

And suggestions of trading, and buying from e-bay are counter intuitive to the point about business sense. Pissing off some of your customer isn't good sense is it?

Thematically though it's cool that Leia, C3P0 and R2 are in the Tantive box given how Star Wars began on that ship with those characters, so I think having them is more to do with that, and the idea that you can buy a big epic ship you will rarely use and still get a few things for normal play.

Talking about highly effective Guaranteed 5 hits with APT... Good ol Major Rhymer with PTL + APT that you can fire at range 1 and 2. TL + Focus... You need to roll 4 blank dices in order for you to NOT make 5 hits every time. Which is almost impossible to get. I remember the face of my friend when I one shotted his X-Wing the other day! Hehe.

Add Carnor on top of that and you rush him in the flank of the opponent at range 1 so that he cannot use his focus on defense and it is even better for a really good chance to auto uncanceled 5 hits on your enemy ship! ;-)

We actually did a very similar situation in an epic game. Vader was jetting by to avoid getting rammed by my corvette. Fortunately Hobbie had a shot, stressed him good, then next round when he was defenseless he TL'd again and the Tantive took a coordinate action to give him the focus. APT's, five hits. Vader got wiped. Then the corvette rammed Wedge because of some unfortunate maneuvering....

Tarn + R7

Falcon Title + Gunner

Soontir/Tycho +PtL

Biggs Wedge

Jonus Scimitar+Cluster Missiles

Oh yeah and my favorite

FFG + Star Wars

This combo is not good, just a regular gunner will do fine. Marksmanship works for both attacks btw! ;-)
