EU Contest (AOR GM Kit) Win a Free Signed Book!

By KRKappel, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hey everyone,

So my name is Keith Ryan Kappel, and I was the writer for the adventure and rules supplement that is packaged with the AOR GM Kit. I had a ton of fun crafting the adventure, and there are more obscure EU references than you can shake a stick at buried in the text of the adventure. In fact, there are so many, you might say there is something like an EU information scavenger hunt built into said adventure.

On Tuesday, July 15th (I want some people to have time to play through and then read the adventure, or account for some late shipping times) I will ask a question in this thread. The first person to post the correct complete answer (as judged by me) will win a free signed copy of one of the Star Wars products I have worked on for FFG. This includes Suns of Fortune, the AOR GM Kit, and the upcoming Far Horizons colonist class book (if you feel like waiting on your reward). I'm willing to pay shipping so long as its under 10 bucks, otherwise we'll have to work something else out.

Anyway, I hope you guys all enjoy the adventure, and I wish you all luck in the contest!

So the AOR GMK is in the hands of many already. Take a couple of weeks to enjoy, and on the 15th I will be asking an EU question that I'm pretty sure no one on the planet will be able to answer off the top of their head. It is going to require research. Enjoy!

I will not be getting my Core book and GM screen from my local brick and motor store until the 15th :(

Seems like a fun idea...though I don't have access to any of the EU material (short of going out and buying it now) except for Wookieepedia...

That being said, I did pick up the GM kit and have read through the first few pages of the adventure...I like what I see so far!

One thing though, the book (lets call it a booklet, it's actually quite thin) dives right into the adventure, and from my quick scan through (besides the squad/squadron rules in the back), I can't see much in the way of actual general advice for GMs. I never picked up the EotE one, so I don't have a frame of reference besides the GM Toolkit from WFRP 3rd...which actually had quite a few helpful tools and tips for GMing the system in general.

The GM screen is beautiful as would be expected from FFGs reputation...anyone notice any differences on the content form the EotE screen? And although the image of the Death Star is very evocative of the setting, and expertly rendered...wasn't it blown up already in the official timeline of this system?

Some clever wookieepedia searching is probably how the winner is going to find his or her answer(s). This stuff is honestly just too obscure for anyone to know off the top of their head, I think.

You say that now, but there are a lot of Supernerds on these forums. Gives me something to aspire to.

. . . I find your lack of faith in Nerds disturbing. . . .

Ha! Well, I just said that based on how I personally would approach finding the answer. I guess we'll find out what's what in 5 days! I won't be shocked if someone answers it correctly within an hour. I also won't be shocked if it takes a few days.

Well... I'm out. I won't have it by then. Frelling Canadian distribution.

If there are enough people experiencing said distribution issues, I can be convinced to push the date back an extra week or so. If 10 people "like" That Blasted Samophlange's post above this, I'll go ahead and delay it.

If you can get four more likes within the next two days (13th and 14th) I'll delay it a week. Otherwise I'm going to go ahead and post my question on the 15th. On the 14th, I'll post on here again with the official time I plan to post the question, so those who the fastest start can get it.

As a Canadian living in Ontario, I have had my copy (from the FLGS) since the official release date. Not sure Canadian distribution is to blame...

Okay, so I missed pre-posting yesterday. My bad. The day job really had me scrambling until the wee hours. However, I am still planning to post my question/s this evening. Say 7 PM Eastern time.

Some quick rules.

1.) You only win if you are the first person to correctly and entirely answer the question in this thread, so read carefully. Putting up a partial answer early only helps your competition.

2.) If you edit your post, you are disqualified. I don't want people rushing to first and then edit their post as a form of cheating to make it look like they answered first. So if you edit, auto-DQ.

3.) No crying. This is just something I'm doing for fun. So have fun. However, feel free to whine about how hard the question/s is/are, as appropriate. Whining of all sorts is acceptable. Just no crying.

4.) As stated previously, the winner can get a copy (optionally signed by me) of any FFG book I have worked on thus far, which includes Suns of Fortune, the AOR GM Kit (which you presumably have already) or the upcoming Far Horizons (colonist book). I am willing to pay shipping so long as its not a zillion dollars to antarctica or mars or something. (Spirit rover pays its own shipping!)

Good luck to all the participants! I'll be back in 4 hours with the actual questions.

Alright, contestants ready, here comes the question. BTW, Did I say 7 PM Eastern? I mean 7:30 PM central, whoops! Anyway, without further ado....

Okay, maybe 2 minutes of further ado...

The tension is killing me.

(Does that count as whining?)

:P

Okay, here we go! Good luck everyone!

Question 1: Clues indicate that a vehicle in Dead in the Water once covertly served a secret society within the Star Wars galaxy. Which ship had this mysterious past? Which secret organization did it serve? And What are the TWO clues that lead you to this conclusion?

Question 2: Port Tooga is protected by an exotic, alien energy shield that allows it to orbit VERY closely to its star. Which alien race built the shield, and what key clue leads to this conclusion?

Question 3: The Shuttle Pod has no mention of this key feature of dubious canonical relevance.

Good luck everyone, happy scavenging, and have fun! If this is a hit, I'll see about doing something like this again with a future product.

Sigh... good luck everyone.

Sorry Samo. But keep your head up. There's a decent chance you'll be able to get your copy before someone comes up with all the answers. I was originally only going to have question number 1, but NatemusMaximus and Desslok's concerns I was underestimating the speed with which any question could be solved convinced me to add two more.

Matt, you gotta answer all three to win, buddy. It's probably more fun for everyone if you wait until you think you have all three to post. Maybe do me a solid and erase what you put up?

1. The Contispex Crusader once covertly served Imperial Intelligence. For one, Aymus says that the ship was too new and shiny to be a pirate ship, and that it berths on Teagan. Additionally, Hura Kogler admits to working for imperial intelligence.

2. The Killik built the energy shield. The archway on Shoola's Ring says "Bikkik Barran", which matches the Killik's pattern of pallindromic names.

3. The Shuttle Pod has a rear-view mirror to spot rebel fighters in other sources.

Aha. Didn't catch that, my bad.

Good luck folks!

Myrmir, EPIC attempt! Unfortunately you are incorrect.

1.) While this is sort of true, Imperial Intelligence isn't exactly a secret society, it's a branch of government.

2.) EXCELLENT try. But no. Bikkik isn't a palindrome, and it isn't the Killik. Close though.

This is going to be so much more fun than I thought!

Samophlange, you and I, if we get desperate, could try making wild, random guesses! Gungans! Gungans built the shield!

I have 1 of them that was hard Do I post it here?
