How to run 4x A-Wings?

By steveNspace, in X-Wing

Hey guys,

I'm pleading for advice here... If you were to run 4 a-wings, with the current upgrade cards available, what would you take? I know this will be much more viable when chardaan refits is out, but if you had to make 4x A-wing list right now , how would you do it? 100 pts.

Thanks a bunch

I would run them like interceptors with ptl. It's just not going to work to well for you if you lose a ship before your able to destroy a tie and a half.

With wave 4 out predator or out maneuver are good options.

Right now I like

1 • Tycho Celchu - Push The Limit - Assault Missiles (34)
2 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

3 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

4 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

or

1 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit - Hull Upgrade (or Stealth Device) (25)

2 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit - Hull Upgrade (or Stealth Device) (25)

3 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit - Hull Upgrade (or Stealth Device) (25)

4 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit - Hull Upgrade (or Stealth Device) (25)

Post Rebel Aces I'm looking forward to flying: (all title & refit)

Tycho, VI, Decoy

3 x GSP, Swarm Tactics, Opportunist

Everyone shoots at 10.

Right now, I'd give 4 GSP's a Hull Upgrade and Predator each. The body of an X-Wing, built in rerolls and high agility.

Tycho Celchu w/ PTL 29pts

Green Squadron w/ PTL x 3 66pts

95 pts, 5 left for Tycho to take missiles or a ship upgrade

Maybe 3 or 4 pt missile with munitions failsafe?

Or Shield or Hull upgrade & initiative?

Haven't had tried this myself but it should play like a slightly less punchy/more durable interceptor list.

That's what I'd try!

*Yep, ninja'd...

Deadeye and homing missiles. A wingsvare in dire need of damage output.

Deadeye was custom built for A-wings. I would also look very closely at Proton Rockets. They have Deadeye built in and they don't force you to spend the focus. Not to mention they give you 5 attack dice on A-wings. They are only range 1, but that shouldn't bee too much of a problem.

Proton Rockets.

Proton Rockets are not available right now.

Unfortunately Proton Rockets aren't available NOW, as was requested.

I'd go:

Green Squadron, Push The Limit, Cluster Missiles

Green Squadron, Push The Limit, Cluster Missiles

Green Squadron, Deadeye, Concussion Missiles

Green Squadron, Deadeye, Concussion Missiles

Alpha agile targets with the Concussion Missiles (beingable to change a miss to a hit is a boon with Deadeye), or Alpha low agility targets with the Cluster Missiles (PTL helps maximise their damage output)

That would depends on what my opponent it fielding, and who puts what down first!

If I'm putting down first (at PS3 it's a decent possibility), I'd keep them together and deploy either on a flank or in the middle, depending on what I'm facing, If my opponent's putting down before me I'd look to position them where they can either flank or do some hurt ASAP.

I went for a mix of missiles on the basis that I wouldn't know what I was playing against - Cluster Missiles can absolutely cane 1/2 evade ships. If I knew I was up against Imperials though I'd probably take all Concussion Missiles.

Thanks for the comments guys

4x green squadron with PTL, 3 of them with homing missiles

Rebel aces can't come soon enough, there will be so much more flexibility in A-wing squad building

Once Rebel Aces comes out this is my Squad

Jake Farrel + Test Pilot + C Refit + PTL + VI + Shield Upgrade

x3 GSP + Test Pilot + C Refit + PTL + Predator

Use PTL on Greens to either Focus, Evade, or Boost. No need for TL when you get a free reroll. Predator isn't target dependent. I would Run Jake as a Flanker.

Green + Outmaneuver + Ion Pulse x4

Ion's ensure your group is out of arcs, -1 Agi is a-friggin-mazing on any ship, but really helps bring those 2 attack dice bare.

3 attack dice plus TL plus -1agi at range 1 (which you can easily predict with ion missles) is devastating.

Deadeye was custom built for A-wings.

I can't wrap my head around this. Is the idea to use PTL to focus and target lock, then spend the focus to fire the missile and reroll dice with the lock? As opposed to spending the target lock to fire and using the focus to cash in on eyeballs?

Jake is probably the most fun pilot I've used in the game, can't wait until he's out for real. If you can cram him into a list with Kyle or Garven he's even more hilariously awesome, and Proton Rockets will give him even more flexibility. By that point he's costing 30+ points, but he's really good at arc-dodging and/or turtling up with focus+evade+stealth device.

I played last night with the Proton Rockets and Jake - and refits and such and it was amazing. Didn't play with 4 A's, but it's something I'm really looking forward to with Ace's release.

Ran :

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Veteran Instincts (1)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R2 Astromech (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R2 Astromech (1)
Total: 100
My opponent's jaw dropped when I basically one shot Janson out of the sky with proton rockets.
Our fight lasted til it was just Corran with 1 HP left and Jake with 1 HP left. It was epic. Y's controlled the situation while soaking hits up and keeping focus off my A's while I had them pivoting around everywhere.
I can't wait for Aces.
To answer the original question though - if you were going to fly 4 A's,

Right now I like

1 • Tycho Celchu - Push The Limit - Assault Missiles (34)
2 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

3 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

4 • Green Squadron Pilot - Push The Limit (22)

That would probably be what I would run. Or his other variant. Both look lots of fun. Play defensively is the best tip I can give you. They are sturdier than Int's, but not by much.

Prototype x4

ORS w/ MF + APL + IA + IA

Oh, you meant 4 by themselves... Well then...

Pre-rebel aces: not at all...

Post-rebel aces: 4 Greens with Push the Limit, Wingman, Hull Upgrades, and Refit
