Poll: have you played the Epic format yet.

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

Nope.

And reading the responses here it's about 2 to 1 for people who have vs have not.

Nope, I don't own either big ship and I usually supply the stuff.

We've had 2 Epic games recently. One was almost a standard 1v1 game - we had 288 points apiece. Rebels (with transport) creamed on that one after a maneuver mistake let the transport run over a fully loaded Doom shuttle to change the whole game. Second was a real 2v2 scenario with 798 points on the board, Rebs had 1 transport in play then as well. Imperials were winning on that one when we had to call time. Haven't tried one yet with the corvette on the board, though. Looking forward to more!

Second was a real 2v2 scenario with 798 points on the board,

Why in god's name would you have that many points?

798 points on the board means 400 per side, which for 2 vs 2 means the suggested recommended Team Epic format of 200 per person.

Ooooh, very interesting. I was told it was 150 per person. I'll keep this in mind.

I've had two 200 point games with the CR90 in play, one with and one against, and I won both games.

Each was played over a week because we don't have time to sit down for that many hours at once.

Being able to spend all your energy to recover shields is huge.

But being able to flank the CR90 is equally deadly.

She want's one more shot with the CR90 when her exams are over.

Perhaps a GR75 build versus a CR90 build.

or an Imperial CR90. :D

In either case I want us more familiar with them both

before we use the CR90 as a DP20 proxy....

I have played one epic game.Ordinance seemed to really be a big boon in the beginning. At the end, it was down to two TIE Bombers against a Tycho Celchu who still had his stealth device, in a jousting affair.

Tycho kept his stealth device ;)

PLayed one 200pt EPIC game with my Transport, most of the new Xwings and a couple of Ys (Empire Strikes back aesthetic ) Great fun, slicer tools did a fair bit of damage on my opponents ptl squits and I won on points.

Playing a 300pt today, this time I'm Imperial. Still only the transport as a huge ship. Have been enjoying building a 300pt fleet, I like how you can many merge normal builds into one epic one, I have a Howl Swarm, Bomber grouping (including TieAdvs with Proton rockets, cant wait to see if they work!), tooled up shuttle and some high ps (but not ptl!) squints. Cant wait to see it all in action, and even though the game play is a bit laborious compared to 100pt builds it does look something with all those ships on the table.

Played two epic games. 2 players per side; 200 pts each. So 400 pts in total per side.

Some pics for those who like to see those things.

[edit; first time the Imperials won decisively (pics) Second try the Corvette was beastly and demolished many ships, almost single handedly winning the game]

Haven't played a full-scale 300 Epic game, but I have played a 150 point per side game with the Transport. it was fun taking the space whale out for a spin!

Looking forward to a full-size game soon...

I played a 100 point game with the Transport and a 200 with the Corvette, both on a standard 3x3 map. I won both times.

My imperial opponent commented that as much as I had to learn how to fly the big ships he had to learn how to fly his small ships all over again as I managed to battering ram his shuttle in both games and plowed through 3 bombers with the corvette and nearly clipped a cornered Baron Fel with the Transport. He had not figured how hard it was going to be to maneuver around them and not fly into them while still having a decent firing solution.

Han and a weapons engineer on the Corvette netted me a dead TIE before he was in firing range so I was off to a good start. The front end went down fast to a missile barrage from the bombers though. Recovering shields each turn and using the Ionization reactor to cause his TIE mini-swarm to bump my broadside were key to saving my bacon. I flew Wes and Hobbie as escort and Hobbie was unusually lucky with his dice on offense and defense, lasting with 1 hull left for 4 or 5 turns while still firing at his ships, taking down Howlrunner and at least 2 other TIEs. Rear quad lasers chewed into the rest of his TIEs at close range, they were definitely a better choice over the single turbolasers I thought about using.

The Transport was flanked by a pair of Y-Wings who used their ion cannons to fly the shuttle right into the path of the transport. Fel did fairly well against it but the threat of Slicer Tools kept him from stressing and the ion cannons eventually hit. He almost flew off the map and then almost got clipped by the transport in a desperate move to battering ram him. The Y's main guns finished him off the turn before the transport itself would have flown off the map.

I am looking forward to going through the included campaigns with a friend sometime soon.

pues no... :(

Yes.

Yes

Yes, love it. Far better than standard.

Yes, good fun. High point was when the rebel player ran over a tooled up falcon.

At our store we have played team epic format. 2 v 2 at 200 point per player. 800 total points on the board.

We have played with one transport, another game with two transports, and then another game with the transport and corvette. The only rebel victory was using the transport and corvette... but I will admit the corvette was gunning good that day and the opponents placement was not optimal.

Just one 200 point game so far. Its a lot of fun, but its super time consuming. Really only able to get one game in a session.

Yes, we played through the included missions, plus a couple reguar games. It's fun but you need to rethink your approach a bit, it's pretty different than 100 point games. I loved the transport with sliving tools, it made me want a second one to really deal out the slicer damage. I found the corvette's weapons frustrating against the 3 Agi TIEs, but I only used the corvette in the campaign and would probably equip it differently than the mission dictates.
