Etahn's card says,
"When an enemy ship inside your firing arc at Range 1-3 is defending,
the attacker may change 1 of its (hits) to a (crit) result."
Does this mean that if a ship is in his firing and is being attacked by another ship, one of those (hits) may also be changed to a (crit)?
I am reading it that way currently, but am looking for something official or a consensus on how to handle that.

Yes.
Note that in multiplayer situations like Furball, this ability doesn't require that the attacking ship is friendly to you: just that it is attacking your enemy, and that enemy is in your arc at R 1-3
