Why homing missile? Assault missile offers far greater options for the same cost.

He isn't worried about swarms - he IS a Swarm and can fight them with blasters. Against the bigger stuff like the Phantom, Tie Defender, etc, Homing Missiles are just plain better.

XXXZZZ is good, BXXZZZ should be a little better, since B's are more durable than X's.

With either, a good formation would be the 3 Z's in the front (meatshields), and the X's/B in the back (cannons).

I want to try this:

4 x Tala Squad (each with assault missiles and munition fail safes)

Lt. Blount with assault missles and swarm tactics

Its very experimental, and I have yet to even fly a z-95 but I like the idea of 5 ships with five assault missiles that will always eventually hit. This is just mean for swarm lists. This squad is giving you 10 shield, 10 hull, 10 attack dice (20 in one round with the missiles, which then each produce additional damage when they blow up no near by ships). I am excited to try it.

Alternatively I thought about Cracken with cluster missiles and wing man, who gets paired with Etahn who rocks PTL and R7-T1 with APT, and biggs with a shield upgrade and an R7 Astromech. The E-Wing in this scenario is going to be pulling off four actions a turn without stress at the end of it (target lock, boost, evade, focus)....gross

How did this work for you? I'm thinking of running similar tommorrow.

Against Soontir the YT is a solid counter so Han or Chewie plus 4 Z95s. Another interesting option is to sub 2 A-Wings for the YT. Fight fire with fire.

Han+Gunner+MF (or Chewwie+VI+Gunner+C3P0+MF)

That's 29 HP! I personally like the Chewwiee version as he is even harder to kill.

My favorite use for Z95s is the exact use they were designed for:

34 points that protect you against both swarms and high bulk low agility ships (Falcon, BH, Shuttle etc).

-Bandit Squad + Assault Missiles + Munitions Failsafe

-Bandit Squad + Cluster Missiles

After they use their missiles they are effective blockers.

Not to mention, Cracken with Assault Missiles and Munitions is some of the best 25 pts you'll spend for a support ship.

Made some grievous errors in the early rounds, but went 4-2 in the Atlanta Regional with BXXZZZ. When I wasn't completely derping out, it served me well in the tournament and a league.
