Y-8 Mining Vessel

This. I want this in XWMG. It's way too cool. Thing is, no clue how it'd work.

Anybody got any ideas? Because holy crap it's cool.

It would look like a fat B Wing on a stand

Heeeeeeey :(

But seriously. It was a fairly neat ship from SWG, the Rage of the Wookiees expansion pack. Taller than it's long and guns everywhere, I think it'd be an interesting candidate for a large ship.

That's right. Large ship. It's not quite big enough to qualify as huge. I think it could present interesting options for crew and turrets. Perhaps even, the first ship to mount more than one kind of turret?

Wouldn't that be interesting? Equipping both an ion and blaster cannon on a ship?

Doesn't look like it would be too difficult to scratch build. Could be kinda cool for some sort of scenario involving lots of asteroids. No idea on how big it is supposed to be, but it reminds me of the front end of a nebulon B frigate facing the wrong way.

I don't know if a mining ship would fit

That's why I linked the Wiki article.

In SWG, you could outfit your ship with several different types of weapons.

This vessel could not only introduce two types of turret per ship, but also tractor beams.

Looks like a humming bird that lost his wings

I did read the article on Wookieepedia and saw that mercenary groups would outfit them for their needs. It still boils down to it currently fits into neither faction and it's a mining vessel. I do believe at some point a tractor beam will get introduced into the game at some point. This craft would be a surprising pick to introduce that feature.

Hence the need for a third faction. :D

Sorry.

Well played, sir.

Welp, at least it's not a Vong Ship. : /

Yep. I think it'd be a nigh perfect for for the tractor beam.

In regards to fitting neither faction, yeah basically. I really do support a third faction.

Come on now. I was making a joke, if you really want to make faction comments, take it to the ongoing, 370 post thread already on the subject.

Tractor beams would be a very thematic thing to include in the game, but I don't see how you could implement one in the flight path system. There is basically no way to use the move templates to move a ship directly towards another one if they are misaligned, the angles would be too weird.

"Take any ship within range 2 and move it to any of your range 2 movement arcs. Vessel remains still for one turn after activation. Requires Target Lock"

Basically, if it's within your attack range of range 2, you move it to your range ruler's length and not theirs. This could also allow ramming actions, if you so desired.

Which would be a -nasty- strategy.

This is how I would Handle the Tractor beam in X-Wing. The weapon would have to be a Turret Weapon 3 dice range 1-3. if the tractor beam hits cancel all damage and place a tractor beam token next to the ship. during the movement phase a ship with a tractor beam token next to it does not place a dial, instead you opponent chooses a 1 speed maneuver that moves the ship in the direction of the ship that obtained the tractor beam.

That is also not a bad idea. With the Y-8 and my proposed multiple-turret-solution, you could hold an enemy AND hammer it, making the extremely sluggish vessel very dangerous.

I like it.

But what if the ship that got tractor beamed is facing away from the ship that tractor beamed it? Which direction could it legally go by those rules? A K-turn only? If it's a shuttle, can it only do a 0 stop? Does a HWK start slowly turning around in whatever direction the opponent chooses?

Tractor beam dictates movement. Place a 1 where that ship is in relation to the beaming one. Ship moves towards bigger ship.

This is the first time I've seen it, but I kinda like it. I'd really like to see more ships (and other support) for more scenario-based play, so this sort of thing would be exciting to me.

Yeah, scenario play doesn't happen a whole lot. I'd like to see it more often, because it changes the dynamic from deathmatch, to objective.
