Hawks and B's

By Green Rabid Monkey, in X-Wing

Ok heard about this concept and I've been toying with it in squad builders....this is what I have so far

Blue Squadron Pilot (B Wing)

Advanced Sensors

Proton Torps

Blue squadron pilot

Advanced sensors

Proton Torps

Kyle Katarn

Squad leader

Roark Garnet

No upgrades

Total 100pts

I was debating on Advanced sensors or he FCS on the B Wings since they are equal points

There it is...any suggestions?

You have a lot of points invested in not one, but two ships that bring absolutely zero offensive potential to the table. Replace Kyle with an X-Wing and put an ICT on Roark.

drop both torpedoes and squad leader, add 2 Ion turrets. Problem solved

I was thinking keeping the hawks back and use their abilities to give the B Wings some hammer time....12Ps and focus tokens

It's only a theoretical list...so please keep th suggestions coming

Then, wth the 5 saved points Upgrade form BSP to Daggers.

I actually can play pretty good with dual B Wings....won plenty of games with just those 2 left

(all I ever play is A's and B's lol)

If you want to run 2 HWKs with 2 Bs, I've had some success with this list:

Blue Sq. Pilot (22)

HLC (7)

Blue Sq. Pilot (22)
HLC (7)

Rebel Operative (16)

ICT (5)

Rebel Operative (16)
ICT (5)

Total = 100 Points

All PS2 so moving is easy. HLCs fire first, ICTs to control what's left standing. Rinse, repeat.

And you've won these with your other ships absorbing fire, connecting with shots, and overall helping the team.

LAst weekend I took out two B-Wings and Wedge with Night Beast and an Academy tie, but I know full well that that 27 points isn' capable of winning me games.

Two Hawks cannot offer enough to the team to keep those B-Wings alive, and cannot win the fight later. Unless your opponent is terrible you'd have handed them the game.

Interesting....I'm used to low PS and didnt think it would work with this type of list

Any guess on win/loss percentage?

Even then, two B-Wings firing first with Torpedos is not going to kill enough. You can't kill a B-Wing with it. You could take out an X-Wing in XXBB, but by the time you've killed another X-Wing you're down to 1 B-Wing with Hawk support versus two. That isn't enough.

I can' think of a reasonable squad you could beat with this list. Even 4 Advanced is better(If only just)

This almost seems like a challenge lol

I'm not dismissing any comments, I just wonder if there is a viable build....I don't expect earth shattering tourney crushing results, just a nice change of pace

Considering I taught half the group, it may throw people for a loop

Wonder if I can drop Roark for a B...would need 3 more pts as well

To quote Morgan freeman in the Lego movie "that idea is simply...the worst"

I'm just kidding man:) try it out but def throw some ion turrets on those bad boys if you can

I had good success with this list at Imdaar Alpha - it's particularly good vs opposing lists with four or fewer ships, as the ion turrets can keep half of them pointed the wrong way after the first pass.

I've also seen others running this with some success:

Jan Ors (25) + Squad Leader (2) + ICT (5)

Roark Garnet (19) + ICT (5)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Basically one of the Blues gets to shoot at PS12 with an extra die, focus, and TL, which is great for downing things before they can shoot back.

'Hawks and B's' as a title reminds me of this:

Basically, NEVER use a HWK without a turret. EVER.

Basically, NEVER use a HWK without a turret. EVER.

Seriously. The card practically says that right on it. That "1" in red at the top left should really say "Disregard, and grab a turret you oaf!" The only reason (I suspect) they didn't write all that out is it would really screw with their formatting.

Turrets are needed. Try:

Dagger + FCS x2

Rebel Operative + RecSpec+Ion Turret x2

Total: 100

Basically, NEVER use a HWK without a turret. EVER.

I've had limited success with a turretless Jan with either squad leader or saboteur, and I suspect tactician would work decently as well. Mostly works in A-wing heavy lists to cover their only real weakness of not great offense. But more than one turretless HWK is pure suicide.

I've also had success with Roark + intelligence agent without a turret... no offense there, so you're losing a bit - but when you're running a-wings or advanced sensor bluesthat need to know the dial of something else - and can be pumped to fire first, it's not that bad - - and bringing 4 ships besides roark... Chaardan refit is going to blow some of those builds wide open.

That aside I've personally been enjoying Ibtisam and Jan Ors together, though I kit Ibby with an HLC and Opportunist, and Jan with an Ion. Enemy ships tend to stop existing on the first pass, and if they manage to get around behind it, Jan makes sure they're pointed in the wrong direction.
