Team Epic Games, New Life to the Neglected?

I have recently been having a great deal of fun with team epic play. The scale and carnage is so much fun and satisfying. Furthermore there are combos, tactics, even ships and pilots that become clutch to success that might not see use otherwise.

Roark Garnet for example. While the ability has potential in standard play, and can even be useful in chaining PS 12, it rarely is anything more that a gimmick. However 19 points (24 with an ion turret, which I always take) turns the Corvette into a wrecking machine! 10 or more attack die at PS 12, yes please. Furthermore the ion turret is great to get ships run over by the ship, while also combating those that fly into the blind spot. Target saturation, a turret weapon and larger play area help mitigate the poor maneuver dial. Also with the number of ships you will field it is easier to screen and keep this ship alive, or contrariwise use it as bait to take out opposing ships who are afraid of PS 12 Corvette.

Something like this would rarely, if ever see use in standard play because every point counts, though when you 200-400 points to work with it becomes much more feasible and possible to use things like this.

What are your thoughts everyone? What are some combos, ships or pilots that generally get shunned but are seeing some love now? Am I looking at this through rose tinted glasses and the HWK is still a waste of points? Or is it simply a matter of Epic play has given us the room to finally use these ships to full potential?
