Capital Ships

By Vincent DiPaula, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I want to design a really huge scenario for use at a local game store. I have a Correllian Corvette and a Rebel Transport plus several of each fighter it is going to show case all ships currently out. Using multiples of each is there a guide I can use for an epic battle points wise so I can use the Correllian Corvette and 1-3 Rebel Transports and still make it even for both sides. I am planning on possibly six to eight players if I can get them. However their does not seem to be straight point values for the capitol ships as they are not intended for tournament play. However this is not going to be tournament play just a huge for fun epic battle.

The tournament guidelines for Epic points is a 300 point build, with 5 Epic points, a CR90 being 3 and a Transport being 2.

That should give you a decent guideline to work from.

Their are the epic rules on the support page that list how many "epic" points each ship costs for epic play, as well as team epic play (where one side is all ships and the other has huge ship(s) with other ships as escort).

see here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/X-Wing-Epic-Tournament-Rules.pdf

The points on your huge ships are how many squad points they take up. As long as points stay even you should not have any problems.

As Buhallin said, the Epic Tournament rules give a good guideline for what would be balanced in a large-scale battle. Of course you don't have to stick to them strictly for a fun casual game, but they are a framework to work in. I think for a 6-8 player match you might consider letting each player field a 100-point squad - for six players that would give you the equivalent of a 600-point Epic match, and for 8 players it would be equivalent to an 800-point Epic Team match. It would also not overwhelm less experienced players - many are used to running 100 points, and there's no reason you couldn't just use a squad you're already familiar with. You can fudge the point totals around a bit, but I think if you keep each side close to equal point-wise, you should have a fun and balanced game.

Thanks guys I am reading through the epic rules now and am going to go back and review the ships to see if I understand the point ideas. I semi-understand how the point system for the 100 pt battle works so I will start with that and try to figure in the capital ships. I know things like only one character card per side which can be limiting and for the first game I try I may leave the capital ships out as that is my confusion and just wait until I understand those rules better. At my first read on the Correllian Corvette it did not seem to convert straight to rules and I did not want to limit ship scenarios the way there scenarios seem to. I was going to go with a no rebel reinforcement rule as their side has all the big guns so to speak.

Well, if you're not having an official tournament game,
and you happen to be wanting to balance the epic points,
maybe you'ed like to try giving the corvette to the imperials...
