High PS rebel build critique

By Nickotine42, in X-Wing

So in prepping for the PS war that the phantoms are going to start I wanted to get some opinions on this build.

Roark

+Blaster

+Recon Spec

+Moldey Crow

Cracken

+Swarm

2x Blues

+Adv Sen

My PS could be 12,8,8,4. Or 12,12,4,2. Or etc. etc., etc. I think Cracken would be the first to be targeted, so I'd need to protect him. Then maybe Roark. After a couple of rounds of a B shooting at 12, that might be annoying enough to try and take out the support ship. I had thought about dropping the Blaster in favor of an Ion and giving Cracken a shield or hull, but I'd like to keep my damage output as high as possible, especially with a fragile ship in the Z. And the extra focus helps keep the HWK around. This list has been tinkering in my head for the past couple of days. Ready to try it out this weekend.

Thoughts?

That build will get out maneuvered and Cracken will die super quick.

Try Roark with Ion, Cracken with Swarm, and Biggs. That leaves 30 points for a 4th ship and upgrades. That could be a cheap E & 3 points, or a tricked out B, or lots of options. With Cracken & Roark make the 4th ship a heavy hitter (possibly a blue with hlc) to add some damage. Biggs helps give Cracken & Roark longer to help your big gun.

To me though, that's Biggs with 2 support ships & 1 main threat.

Drop the recon specialist for an intelligence agent and you won't get outmaneuvered nearly as easy. B-wings (especially those with advanced sensors) are not nearly as easy to outmaneuver as one may think.

"But i'm going to need a whole lot of focus" you say. Slow play the start of the game and stack a few. Or hell, with the points you save from not having recon specialist just have an ion turret.

This could also save you against Phantoms. Bump Cracken to a 12, who shares it with Roark. Echo won't know what hit her.

Faced with this list, I'd go for the B-Wings first. Take out the targets for the PS upgrades as they are also the main damage providers.

I would actually drop Cracken from this list and replace him with a third Blue with AdvS. That totally changes your list's hook, but it seems a lot stronger that way.

Taking an Ion Turret instead of Blaster may drop your damage output a little but also frees up 5 more points because you won't need a Recon Spec and Title at 3 points each.

The problem isn't going to be shooting before the phantoms, it's going to be moving after the phantoms, especially Echo. Your blues are going to move, and then Echo is going to do whatever he wants to get out of arc of the blues, so then you're going to have a PS12 blue, with no shot. FFG said they want to get away from the low PS generics and chaining ST... Thus you now have to actually have a higher PS in order to move afterwards so you can adjust to the enemies movements.

This also makes Cracken priority target #1 for the Phantom player, which makes me think a Hull Upgrade would be ideal on him.

Against Phantoms I'd prefer a second Rebel Operative shooting at PS 12. It's pretty hard to dodge two turret arcs even for Echo.

Roark+Ion

Rebel Op+Ion

Knave+R3-A2+FCS

finishing with Blue FCS or 2x Bandit.

So I ran this list twice this weekend at my flgs league night. It performed better than expected. Sadly I did not get to try it out against any phantoms. But it did beat a rexler with some missiles and predator, bh with seismic charges and 2x aps. Lost Cracken on the second round of shooting. Some excellent blocking by the b's slow downed the defender and Roark took care of the ap's. Roark was targeted but could not be dropped. I had an unlimited supply of focus tokens that worked wonders on def. All in all I lost Cracken and a B with the other B at full health and Roark still with 2 hull. Second game wasn't even that close. Against a supped up Ibby , ten numb, and Goldie with ion, I didn't loose a ship and was able to run 12,8,8,4 repeatedly. It was over very quickly. I like it. Going to run it again and see where the holes are.

Planning to run this list once Rebel aces comes out:

Luke Skywalker

Airen Cracken

Ibtisam + VI

Tycho Celchu + Chardaan Refit

All PS8 and theres a little bit of synergy with Airen handing out free actions, even to a stressed Tycho, not the strongest list ever but all 4 ships at PS8 (without leaning on Swarm Tactics) cant be ignored

its pursuit and classification Halloween Mascot Costumes structure assisted determine
