3 ship rebel tanky list

By Greedyfly, in X-Wing

I know the common thought is 3 ship list are not up to the task but with the new C3PO card and smart flying I was thinking in the right list 3 ships could work. Was thinking

Chewbaca 42 C3PO 3 falcon title 1. 46

Luke sky walker 28 R2F2 3 swarm tactics 2. 33

Rookie pilot 21

I was thinking R2F2 was more of a natural fit on Luke as it has a high chance of activating Luke's natural ability and swarm tactics makes him a target as he bumps up his priority because he allows the rookie to shoot first against most and the 2 of them can stay in formation while chewy flanks, well that's the Idea

Any thoughts Guys

In my testing of 3 ship builds, I have always found a defensive based card to never do well. You are already at a disadvantage by not having as many guns as the guy next to you. Taking the action to increase Luke's agility will take the punch away from his attack. The better opponents will kill the rookie first to take away a shot. You will unlikely kill a ship in the first exchange and if the focus on one of yours they will.

However, I have been wrong before. Have fun with it.

I have found the falcon to tank like two ships, so I usually count it as two. That said, I think you need to maximize your offense and maneuver options. I like, Chewie, gunner and two reds. The higher ps gives you a chance to clear low ps before they focus one of your x's down and you will still have some points for astromechs or ordinance. You could Aldo get really aggressive and have Lando help you shove a couple ApT's into your opponents list.

If you use Falcon its not 3 ships list, its flying saucer and 2 ships list

Cheers for the reply guys. Good food for thought. I was thinking about the typical Han shoots first list but for what I see it has about the same feeling as the tie swarm list from other players. But I do take your points very well i.e maximise damage output as much as possible

My 3 ship rebel tank list is one that I love,

• Luke Skywalker - R2-D2 - Draw Their Fire (33)
• Ibtisam - Elusiveness - Sensor Jammer (34)

• Outer Rim Smuggler - Gunner - Millennium Falcon (33)

It still needs to focus fire to win obv, but the Ibby build is surprisingly resilient. I know a fer people that prefer her with PtL but I really like being able to pull the stress defensively to force them to reroll plus a sensor jam and then allowing me to reroll. Luke flying around closely drawing crits when he has shields and then gaining them back with R2. The ORS is just floating around as something to absorb a bunch of hits. I usually evade every turn if there is any chance of getting shot. The gunner allows you to land a few hits when you have poor rolls.

I like the sound of ibtisam run like that ,I haven't played it yet but it's some thing in might have to try and squeeze in the points.

Depending what the title card for crew costs, I think an interesting defensive option for B-wings post-Rebel Aces is going to be C-3P0. You've only got one die anyway, why not guarantee you'll get at least dodge one damage? It's a build that already works for the YT-1300 to shed some damage it would take otherwise. The bonus with using 3P0 with Ibtisam is 3P0's bonus evade comes before modifying dice, so you can guess 0 evades, roll 0, get the bonus, then if she's stressed reroll and possibly get a second.

Combine that with Sensor Jammers and elusiveness and you'd get a surprisingly tough to kill B-wing. That said I'm not sure I can get behind elusiveness on ibtisam, at that point you are going purely for a defensive use of her ability. Push the Limit just gives more control.

Depending what the title card for crew costs,

It was spoiled somewhere, can't remember where though. It costs 1 if I'm not mistaken.

With W4 out, I'm toying around with a 3 ship build, using the ORS. Something along the lines of:

ORS w/ MF + C3PO

Luke

Horn w/ FCS + EU

I figure that the ORS shouldn't draw much hate at the beginning being a 2 attack ship, Horn should be able to arc dodge with his higher PS to keep him alive a bit longer, and Luke can tank up the middle to give them something to shoot at. This keeps Corran alive longer to do his hit and run tactics, and then the ORS sticks around so it can then evade 2 damage a turn.

Horn needs to make sure that he's safe for the first engagement, because he's clearly the #1 target, but he should be slippery. I've also considered dropping Luke down to a Rookie or something to open up a few more points for Horn/ORS (chewy crew would be nice, as would an EPT on Horn), since Luke's purpose is to get shot at.

End game then will either be Horn, doing his hit and run, decimating his opponents, or the ORS, evading 2 damage a turn, making it very difficult to actually get damage through.
