Is Solo Play Viable?

By Xstroyes, in X-Wing

I too rather just play on my own so that the game will be fun and not a job dealing with transporting everything to a crappie old game store then having put myself in the position of being around the bad people that are always at the few shops that have yet to find their tar pits...

Back in the 90's it was better, but now these sad little holes in the walls are not a place I want to be.

There are of course some very nice game stores too, that are part of an actual well run game and hobby business, but these few gems are not in my city.

No big deal.

:)

Cool, thanks to everyone who responded with some actual advice! =p

I placed an order for two core boxes, a TIE Interceptor, and the Y-Wing. I'll check out the solo rules Snowhive linked to and the AI applet for sure.

But, there's a glimmer of a hope. My girlfriend stated she's interested in the game. So I'll still play it solo during the week and get some games in with her on the weekends.

Exciiiiited

Cool...have fun!

:)

I've only ever played solo because I have no friends... actually not true, I just don't have friends who are into miniatures games.

Anyway, my question is: how do you play solo? Do you just play dogfights or do you play the missions too? I recently got both big ships and would like to play the missions but I'm not sure what the best way to do it is. How do I make the AI do "logical" maneuvers in mission situations?

Is solo play viable?

Well, it's fun... but it's not a game...

I also have this question.

I do have a store near where I live to play, but that place only has X-Wing events once a week. I am interested in learning solo play so that I could practice X-Wing in preparation for tournaments/leagues/etc. at my local store.

I doubt solo play would prepare you in the slightlest for tournament play, quite the oppossite.

You are better off going those event days and meet people to practice with other days.

^ I know. I am going to the event days. But as I said they are only once a week. I want to play X-Wing on the other six days in a week as well.

Also, the tournaments I am referring to is more just store-run tournaments (at the same store with the event days) and not formal Regional tournaments.

You have to play the game the way that you would play the game if you had people with you. The only deference is that the A.I. is indicating the Random Factors.

That might come off as a nonsense answer for you, but it is just that simple. Then when your side wins you will be surprised because you almost beat yourself because you allowed the game to function properly.

If the A.I. is indicating that your opponents are to do something that you think is wrong for them to do, because it will get them killed, then you decide to have them do something better that will make it possible for them to continue to try and kill your ass.
