Corran Horn: in search of perfect build

By Redblock, in X-Wing

I was thinking of giving this build a go:

Corran + PTL + FCS + R2 + EU (45)

Tarn Mison + R7 (25)

2x Bandit Squadron + Ion Pulse Missiles (2x 15)

Corran as a flanker, Tarn and the Bandits stay in formation. If they gun after Corran early that leaves Tarn alive in the later stages where he really excels.

Which droid makes more sense on him with FCS and PTL - R2 or R2-D2.

With the R2 you've now got 8 options for clearing stress during your "flee" round, but with R2-D2 you've only got 4 options but you get that shield back. (assuming you've lost one or two at that point.) In the build I'm toying with I have the extra room for R2-D2, so the points don't really matter.

Is one going to make that much more difference than the other?

This may be going a different direction but this is my unkillable Horn

Elusive (there is an a wing wingman next door)

Sensor jammers

R5 P9 (in case he does get hit)

And why not a stealth device for good measure

Not really a tournament build but if you don't have a time limit, this guy is going to really hard to kill.

I'm currently looking at a 4 ship build with Corran, which I'm hoping to test in the next day or so (whenever my FLGS gets Wave 4 in).

Corran Horn + FCS + Marksmanship + Engine Upgrade

Etahn A'baht

Bandit Squad Pilot (x2)

I figured this could be a nasty little list given Etahn's ability as well as Corran's double super-focus + TL. The only thing I'm really not sure about is the EU, as I feel like the points could be served better, possibly by adding some Astromechs on the Es (a plain R2 and R2-D2 jump immediately to mind).

I also may have named this build 2EZ...

3 ship builds are only uncompetitive in a low PS spam meta, but since Echo has put paid to that high PS 3-ship builds are viable again. Corran has a 50/50 chance of matching Echo's PS and a better chance if you bid 99 for initiative. Corran with R3-A2 can stress Echo before it can shoot, and finish her off with the second shot before she can recloak.

Corran is a natural Rebel counter to Echo if played correctly, and this is why he's competitive in the Wave 4 meta.

Airen + wingman

Wedge + R3A2 + Predator

100pts

Exactly wave 4 squads with echo require high ps 3 ship builds to deal with her. I played the above list against an echo squad today and won but it was tough. Wedge putting stress onto a vi echo is key so that the 2 ps8 ships and corran with 2 attacks can smash her. But all the while still watching out for the other ships. If you end up with low ps ships left and haven't dealt with echo you are screwed and won't get another shot at her .

I like the list but I'm not sure what Wingman does for you. Since Coran can remove his own stress with PtL+Adv Sensors, it seems it would only be used when Coran uses PtL followed by a white maneuver. Not a bad failsafe, but did you get enough use out of it?

So take either FCS or Predator. Both is redundant.

Heh. You have never seen the passion with which dice hate me eh?

After playing it today I think if I am playing against echo and others I will rather use this list

Corran + fcs + vi

Wes + vi

Wedge + predator

Be. Interesting to give that a go although advS + ptl is awesome on the Ewing so tough call but will try out variations and see how they play best. Wingman was not hugely useful I used it once.

How about this:

Corran + PTL + R2-D2 + EU (46)

Tarn + R7 (25)

Luke (28)

Comes in at 99pts for initiative. If they go hard after Corran that leaves a strong defensive duo of Luke and Tarn for the end game.

Or:

Corran + PTL + FCL + R2 + EU (45)

Luke + Swarm Tactics (30)

Tarn +R7 (25)
