So wave 4...regional legal?

By Nickotine42, in X-Wing

Ships have come out and mum's the word from FFG on the legality of Wave 4 in the regional tourney setting. Thus making them legal to use as soon as the two regionals this weekend. One in AZ and the other overseas. MY regional TO has already stated that barring any official word from FFG, they would be legal for our tourney in July. Time to ramp up my time against the phantoms out there.

As a rule of thumb always ask the TO.

I'm not sure what FFG considers the official release date for this one. But so long as the release announcement has hit the main page, and a ban list announcement hasn't, they're legal.

It's important to note the difference between "My LGS got them!" and "They're released!" though. I THINK the official release is this week, but until they say it's released, it's not legal.

We are planning on them being legal for the event in Mesa AZ this weekend unless we hear otherwise from FFG.

I'd say baring anything else. Once the upcoming page has them listed as "In Stores" then that means they're released.

So I guess we'll have to wait 2 more days to see what FFG says.

I'd say the safe assumption is that Wave 4 is legal this weekend, unless the TO says otherwise.

If I were running a regional event, I'd be inclined to say they couldn't be used this weekend, but could be next.

I think the hard part for a TO is going to be interpreting Wave 4 ship rules (e.g. Phantom w/Adv Sens, Firespray w/Outmaneuver, etc.) if FFG doesn't release an updated FAQ. I'm going to the Mesa, AZ regional, and that's my only concern with allowing Wave 4 ships. It'll literally be 2 days before a huge "Premier" event and there will be a lot of rule debates.

There's nothing hard about this, neither of those interactions have any ambiguity at all. Advanced sensors and the decloaking rules both say "immediately before revealing your maneuver dial", so the rule for simultaneous effects (resolve them in the controlling player's choice of order) applies. The Firespray with outmaneuver can indisputably use outmaneuver in its rear arc because it is a primary weapon arc (see previous ruling on Backstabber, for example).

I have been combing through the board discussions, FAQ, and rules - and when needed playtesting - as many of these weird potential combos to come up Saturday that I can think of. I'll be the primary TO in AZ and we'll have a few volunteers helping too - we'll be prepared as possible. Nothing we have come up with yet is without at least precedent in the existing documentation, but if there are other specific questions I'd love to hear them so we can consider them in advance of the event instead of dealing with them day-of.

There aren't all that many out there right now. Take a look at some of the decloak threads over in the Rules forum, we actually just got some email responses from Frank that locked it down. Honestly, I agree that most of them are pretty clear - I think R7-T1 is the last outstanding real question.

One thing I'd recommend for these weird issues, especially with brand new ships like this, is to take a few minutes at the start of the event and announce how they'll be ruled. It may save a great deal of mid-event heartache. I don't think any of the points that people tend to argue over are bad enough to affect list selection, but if you can avoid "I wouldn't have chosen that maneuver if I knew that!" situations, it'll make things better for everyone.

Was there a response from FFG regarding R7-T1? I lost track of that thread a long time ago...

Precisely what I plan to do. I am in the process of developing a script I'm going to work from at the start of the event to make sure I don't forget anything important.

Buhallin has it right. Take all the new card/effect rulings from the Rules thread and announce how you will be judging them. That will save everyone on headaches.

Nope.

No yet, until the new FAQ and the new Tournament rules Arrives, greettings.

That's not how the event rules work anymore.

Put up a post in the facebook event etc and/or on here about your rulings so that people know before the day. This will save hassles. Also if you have a list of things, people might be able to suggest others that you have missed. Example how does Munitions Failsafe work with Cluster Missiles? Do both attacks need to miss for MF to trigger? Does just one attack need to miss to trigger MF? Does only the first attack count for triggering MF?

Swing this part over to the rules thread so the OP doesn't get off track.

Obligatory quote for anyone wanting to use wave 4 Imperials:

"I will make it legal." - Darth Sidious

Interesting little note for this all.

Wave 4 is for sale at the FFG Event Center, so I'd guess that means it's released.

FFG has been very good about release announcements for X-wing, is wait for that. It's almost certainly tomorrow, but that's the mark I'd use.

Not necessarily. Just because FFG is selling it doesn't change the release date.

Perhaps, but it also seems that given how it's been for sale some places already and at the event center yesterday... FFG doesn't really have a street date persay. But either way I'd guess they would be legal this weekend.

I guess the real question is, when is a product considered "released"?
