Desperately Seeking Token

By DigitalChicanery, in X-Wing

I've been really digging my LaserTouch tokens. My only gripe is that I had to "paint" them

I don't mind having to paint them - Those shield tokens are great!

pretty sure none of the 3rd party acrylics come painted and all of them will need to be painted if you want that effect

The Token in the OP looks like someone painted the image (or it could be a sticker) onto a generic acryllic cog token, and placed it on the smallest size of the Warmachine style bases.

Thank you Darkfather!

The mystery of the awesome Shield tokens has been solved.

Aetherworks in Australia.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled forms, and return to my hemming and hawing.

BTW the AP Shield token is a replication of the cockpit control in the video game:

Instead of a specific ship, put a generic shield in there to make it more universal. Just figured if you guys who don't like it knew where I came up with the design, maybe you wouldn't think it was so bad. I didn't want to just totally copy FFG's design.

Hexis, please accept my apologies if I offended you in any way over this whole thing... The only thing I don't care for on the AP tokens is the generic "shield" iconography.

It's just a personal preference. :)

What he said. There's a medieval shield, and then there's my space ship shield. Just two different things, and I'm quite fond of FFG's design. Currently, I use the energy tokens from AP's Huge ship set in dark blue, and everyone loves 'em.

If AP came out with a shield design a bit more akin to FFGs, I'd grab a set or two in a heartbeat

I think the Applied Perspective Tiny Target Lock Set is pure brilliance!!!!!!

I designed em so glad you like them :D

I don't take any offense at all. Just wanted to give you guys a background on the design. I find your feedback helpful. It gives me an idea to tweak the shield to something more akin to a generic ship, maybe a arrowhead kinda thing. I have been putting together a list of ideas for a 3rd generation of tokens for Adam to consider.

Also, the mini target locks are all Adam. I had nothing to do with them.

I've been considering a set of tiny target locks, especially since we've started using the number pips to represent pilot skill (makes it much easier to check) but I've already got AP's other target locks, and they're just so nice...having them "lock" together makes it very easy to keep the board clean

Also, good to hear that there's a new wave of tokens being considered!

Cool, I just re-read my comments and thought my language was a bit harsh.

Again this is all IMHO, but I prefer the tokens that look somewhat "in universe" or extra techy. That's why I'm drawn to a lot of what Cog-O-Two is doing. I dig the faux-screws, etc.

My only complaint about AP's tokens (aside from the medieval shield, which has been covered to death) is the consistent hex shape of the tokens themselves, personally I like to have multiple shapes.

I don't think anyone has been successful with an Evade token yet, even FFG. I just don't care for the squiggly arrow. That's not to say I can think of something better for it.

Super awesome. I'm ordering a bunch of 'em.

I also LOVE your conversions... Any suggestions for a newb to get started in modeling?

Hmm tricky question. Get some tools: hobby knife, box cutter, maybe a razor saw, definitely some side cutter clippers, Zap superglue, plastic liquid cement, plastic sheet and tubing, I recommend getting a bag of Evergreen Plastic Odds & Ends, it's a grab bag of different thicknesses and textures.

Now after all that expense plan out what you want to do ahead of time as much as possible, I don't mean plan out how it goes together just either in your head try and visualise it or better draw sketches or find pics on the pc, scaling them and printing them at size can save a lot of headaches during building when you can compare to the drawing. From there perseverance and it gets easier with practice. Also kit bashing and conversion is easier than scratch building so it's a good way to learn techniques doing small changes before going nuts building half a ship or entire ship.

What do you want to model?

I just have to say, every time I see this thread title, I think it's a romantic comedy featuring a table top gamer as its primary character.

Okay, as you were.

I keep misreading it as someone looking for the author of Lord of the Rings.

Seriously, this is exactly the info I was hoping for.

I was looking at This X-Acto set to start. Along with sheet and rod styrene.

I was definitely planning on starting small... Some basic mods, etc... Eventually I'd like to scratch-build an HT-2200... But that's going to be awhile.

That set is good for a bunch of stuff, generally I use just the basic knife and a fairly largish retractable blade box cutter knife, I like the heavy handle for whatever reason. If you have Daiso stores they're great fir cheap but quite good Japanese hobby tools, like hobby knives and small drills and stuff.
