How about a mixed Aces expansion?

By admat, in X-Wing

Y-Wing + TIE Advanced

That could be interesting. Except for players who concentrate on 1 faction only of course.

Or you could do Y Wing and Tie Bomber

Mixing factions makes sense for a starter set, but not so much for expansions. While I don't know how many players stick with one faction, I would guess that a Y + Advanced pack would draw a lot of grumbling.

Of course there are a bunch of options for releasing "aces" of those ships. I personally think basic TIEs need some more variety and could see a TIE + Advanced duo pack expanding options for both.

I also think Ys and HWKs have a lot of common features and could be packaged together.

A single-pack Y-Wing repaint seems like a good idea.

I think what's most likely is that we'll see new ships that include upgrades that can be applied to some of these older ships.

That would be a good idea

Never know

Be nice kill two birds with one stone

I'm down with the idea. :P . Battle of Yavin Pack would rule.

I think double interceptors is cool, but probably would have been better served as an inceptor and an advanced for the sake of smoothing out some balance stuff. If it had been this way rather than double interceptors I don't think anyone would have be clamoring for 2x ints, and the advanced would see play.

I could see them coming out with mixed boxes of factions if they sold scenario specific kits for doing things like the trench run or a more invested hoth evacuation kit.

I like the ideal but from a marketing stand point it is usually bad bussiness to mix factions. Look how much grief was thrown up when the mixed an X-Wing in with an Epic. Mix Faction Boosters will be much worst of an outcry than that was.

And that was a pretty minor deal. A mixed pack will irritate a handful of faction only players who can't find a buddy to split a pack with.

Aren't ALL expansion packs "Mixed" faction packs though? Really?

I only bought a 2nd Lambda so I could have a 2nd Advanced Sensors for my B-Wings... How many Imperial Players had to buy A-Wings (Prior to Imp Aces) to give their interceptors PTL? Want Vader with Engine Upgrade? Better go buy a Falcon.

I mean lets get real - all expansions offer content for all sides.

Yup,and as was mentioned, if only one player plays one side, then chances are likely they may have a buddy that plays the other, and split the cost.

No biggie.

I see it as a win win. Two ships that could use some lovin all done at once

I wish they would do this

A mixed expansion reminds me of a box with two TIE Fighters and one X-Wing.

I will welcome it. These two iconic ships are much in need of love.

I don't think we will ever see a HWK "Aces" I think they already burned through all of the potential pilots for that ship (and added the crew in Rebel Aces)

I would take more y-wing pilots, period. That ship is one of the best. I don't care if more pilots came in the Space Slug expansion pack. I would buy it.

A number of us have been guessing for several months now that this would be a natural for FFG to release. A bit of circumstantial evidence supports it too. But's just a guess.

I'd like to see the advanced packed with a large imperial ship and given the same love the x wing was with the transport.

If I may ask, what circumstantial evidence do you mean?

I don't understand why we really need an Aces pack. Why not just a Y-wing 2 pack (not 2 Y's, but like...a sequel)
It'd be a Gray squad instead of Gold as the model, and come with all the different upgrades people want so badly.

I could see the Y with Tie Bomber packaged with aces for both and special bomber missions. Anything else would be tough.

Prior to the Rebel Aces pack being announced, both the B-Wing and A-Wing went back to "In Production" status. The same happened with the TIE Interceptor with Imperial Aces. The same happened with the X-Wing prior to the Transport pack coming out. Both the Y-Wing and TIE Advanced did it right after the other ships back into "At the Printer" status.

Virtually every shop has Y-Wings and TIE Advanced sitting on their shelves, so it's certainly not from a high demand of sales volume for the Y and Adv. With four still to be revealed products on the FFG codes for the X-Wing line, that would set up a "Y/Ad" pack, an Imperial large ship or two, and/or something from SW:Rebels this fall.

Like I said, circumstantial, but knowing something of retail production queues, I'd put some faith in it myself.

Now THAT is a well educated response.

Rebel Aces should have been A-wing and Y-wing.

B-wing is still relatively new (Wave 3) and acknowledged to be one of the best and most popular Rebel ships without further attention. By nearly all accounts, the A-wing was overpriced and the Y-wing should have been given the option for EPT! I don't particularly buy into the argument for giving the Y-wing a "Crew" slot but if the B-wing is getting that option then the Y-wing sure as hell deserves it as well. I really have no intention of buying the Rebel Aces expansion pack (so far the only one), even for the cards as I already have enough A's & B's. Wasted, wasted opportunity on FFG's part I think, so far my only disappointment with them and the XWM game. Wasted...

On the Imp side, the TIE Advanced is generally considered to be over-priced but I don't know how FFG could fix that without something similar to the "Chardan Refit" for the A-wing. TIE Interceptors already got extra love and I have yet to see a valid argument for the TIE Bomber needing ANY kind of upgrade, whatsoever.

I collect and play both Rebs and Imps and have no favorite faction, just calling it as I see it.

Why am I so bitterly disappointed about this?

From the wookieepedia article on the Y-Wing...

The BTL-S3 was a two-man strike fighter, and was the most common Y-wing configuration. [11] The weapons systems officer typically operated the ion cannon turret when needed.

That's all I need argument wise for it to get it's much awaited crew slot

Stop trying to make SW:Rebels happen. It's not going to happen.

I need me some LT Telsij and Ekelarc Yong from rotj as ywing pilots! Or even Davish Krail or Tiree from anh!

Adv wise, I guess they'd have to make some up, but I'd like the idea of advanced pilots being sharks...abilities that directly effect enemies you have TL'd or that have lower pilot skill than you. Seeing an Advanced on the board should make you cower, not laugh.

EDIT! Speaking of sharks, abilities that target damaged ships! This would make advanced's great closers and goes great with their survivability
