1-Attack Dice Turret

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

How would you feel about a turret that only rolls one die, but automatically turns focus into hits, has range 3? Suppose it costs like 2 points or something?

Or maybe if it rolls a hit, the hit cannot be cancelled by dice... or something similar.

How would you design a cheap turret for 1 or 2 points?

Supressive Fire Turret

2 points, 3 Attack, Range 1-2

If you hit with this attack, cancel all hit and critical hit results, then assign the target ship 1 stress token.

Flak Turret

1 point, no attack or range

When defending against a missile or torpedo secondary weapon, increase your agility value by 1

Not so great, to be honest.

I'm not a massive fan of range 3 turrets because they really pick on fighters whose main defence is avoiding arcs of fire (TIE interceptors are the obvious one). I don't mind the ion cannon or blaster turrets, because there's the ability to beat them with clever manouvring by dancing in and out of range 3, or the Outrider's heavy laser cannon turret or the corvette's guns, because they have a blind spot at close range, but straight range 3 turrets are more awkward. The Falcon's is okay because it's such a massive chunk of a squad (albeit that I still don't like it) and because you can't argue that its primary weapon isn't turreted...

But if it were only 1 attack die, would it really matter if it shot at your interceptor? The chance to hit you is so small, it doesn't seem likely for you to get hit. I'd estimate in a match that it might hit once.

I would be ok with a range 3 turret with 1 dice, but would never run it. I dislike the idea it can't be evaded, although I could see doing that with crits. Word it so the evade flips down the damage and another evade cancels it or the like.

In the end I like the idea of a range 3 stress turret best, but it should be unique.

Countermeasures like this are a great idea!

Firstly (afaik) Star Wars universe has not revealed the existence of active anti missile defences.

Secondly - I like the idea. I would make it all friendly ships at range 1 gain +1 agility vs Missile / Torpedo weapons.

Only on what used to be C-grade canon did countermeasures really exist (Galaxies)

Didn't X-Wing vs Tie Fighter offer players the option of chaff and flare countermeasures? I could be wrong but I could have sworn it was in either Tie Fighter or XvT

Chaff and flares are not active anti-missile defences.

Ah my bad

Back to the idea of a 1 attack turret, I still would like to see it in the form of a mine with 0 agility deployed from a bomb upgrade.

Bring back the minefield please :)
