Not enough, FFG please have releases weekly so I can spend thousands more.
How much money have you spent on X-Wing?
I keep a spreadsheet that keeps a tally of my X-Wing and X-Wing related purchases. Without taking any discounts or deals that I've made buying stuff from people getting out of the game, I've spent $1140.79 This includes 8.25% sales tax.
Edited by gekigangervMy exact cost on ships is $520.83. To put that into perspective it would be $605.12 through Coolstuffinc or $899.62 full retail ($965.29 w/ tax).
I also have spent $24.98 on an extra wide yoga mat
Plano & a round utility organizer $36.11
Pro Binder $19.39
And $100 on promo items, acrylic templates, sleeves, and other upgrades.
So my exact amount spent is $701.31 (this includes Reb Aces pre order).
Wow, don't let the wife see as I only got into this like 3 months ago...
j/k I sold a bunch of board games and used my Christmas/Birthday money I had saved up.
Edit: just added a 2nd Z-95 before my order is going out. Total is $711.00 Wow that's cool!

I feel I have a fairly decent collection (I reported the $200-$250 range earlier), but have a collection that is nowhere near most of you, or most people in my local environment. I feel I have enough stuff to be competitive with and have fun doing it. Beyond that, I've bought some models (the HWK and the Transport) just for my narrative games.
So, why are you people blowing thousands of dollars on this, when it doesn't seem necessary to do so to have a good game? Am I missing something?

Gollum is getting ready to place a focus token. What ring? Who cares about rings?
Putting all the small ships at 10$, large one at 20$, Transport at 40$ and Corvette at 60$. Excluding Shipping... Around 700$-750$.....

Please don't tell my girlfriend.....

-Collector in me wants everything
-I'm the one lending the ship to my friends and sometimes for a friendly tournament I have to make 6 viable lists
-I want to be able to do pretty much every build I want to
Total is $711.00 Wow that's cool!
I keep track of my plays and I'm at 58 (if I didn't miss any) so that's only $12.26 a play right now and I haven't even received my wave 4 stuff yet.
Sounds like a steal to me!

Collection is some of it. i come from a group where when we play something, we play it on large scale. Epic is too low of a points total to get the attention of most of the war gamers around here, but set the game at 600-900? they suddenyl become interested
if you choose only one side, you will save some money...

Sure you could do it your way.. just doesn't work for me. I'm the guy with the Star Wars game.. so I need enough for my game group to run 2 games.. so 3 X wings don't cut it.. I have 7.. and 15 TIEs.. 10 Squints.. you get the picture..

Interesting...

Because I cannot paint well I decided long ago to give up miniature games and go back to chits (every play Ironclads). The along comes Star Wars - X-Wing. Prepainted well (better than most factory paints), good detail and in a universe that appeals to my geek side. Oops... Then I have two other things. I tend to supply the ships and supplies for X-Wing in our group and I have a mild case of CDO (OCD in it's correct alphabetical order in case you were wondering) .
So I'm over the $500 mark (around $600???) with the last set, CR-90 and GR-75. Somewhat more if you add plano boxes etc... and that doesn't count Wave 4 due June 26th. Bought most all of it at a discount but still adds up.
Since I supply everything I like to provide a balanced choice. Nothing too swarmy other then the TIE/Ln hence my poll over at BGG.
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1168965/how-many-ships-do-you-need-for-a-balanced-fleet
40% of the votes seems like a good target. But once a choice gets over 20% of the votes I look at it. I don't buy full squadrons, but I do want to be able to play 400 points per side in epic. It may take everything or nearly everything but it will come out like a balanced fleet and not 12 of just two types of fully loaded ships. Yep, I like diversity.
Feel free to log-on to BGG and post your ideas for a balanced fleet. Please read my definition of balances and not 12 of everything.
[Edit] - P.S. This is still cheaper than my dive gear and far less than what I spent on 40k Epic plus if you add everything up divided by the number of plays it is even cheaper the greens fees. My wife has pointed out that in the end it's actually a bargain.
Edited by Ken at SunriseStarted playing around the end of April.
Probably spent around $800 on ships.
Including $120 just used for 3x each of the wave 4 ships.
And I have no problem admitting I'm nowhere near finished.
It's about having lot's of options for your games. I prefer to have big games at home with multiple friends that can use the ships I already have here. Having a larger collection of ships looks and feels a lot more impressive on a larger gaming area as well. At their full potential my tables cover 60x72". Epic games feel almost expected.
2 Transports, 1 CR90, 7 TIEs, 12 Interceptors (due to Aces), and 4 of everything else. So far, including travel/hotels to travel to big tournaments, I am about $400 in the black.
The biggest reason I am in the black is that I got into this game buying out the stock of a guy who had a dozen interceptors and a dozen A-Wings during the great wave 2 shortage. I put them on Ebay so I could afford to buy a collection of my own (but I had to wait until they started coming out again to get Interceptors/A-Wings of my own). I generally do well at tourneys, and I am not particularly interested in "showing off" by playing with prize templates/acrylic tokens/etc., so I put any swag I win up on Ebay as well. It lets me have a big collection and keep playing despite having 4 kids, and the fact that my wife and my oldest also play the game.
Compared to 40K, and amount of $$$ spent on X-Wing is next to nothing!
AND the stuff comes painted- which isn't as much of a big deal for me, coming from a 40K, historicals background I would NEVER play with unpainted miniatures, but there is an entire culture of mini-wargamers now that see no problem playing with bare plastic or metal- it is an epidemic in 40K in some places. Pre-painted means that every game I play has painted miniatures that look great, and I can work on my ships with my 40K modeling skills and make them even better.
Out of pocket: $0
I had absurd amount of unused cashback money/bonus points on various credit cards that I never used until I figured out how to link them to my Amazon account. Sooner or later that will run out and i will have to spend real money.
I have:
2 core sets, 1 TIE expansion, 1 X-Wing expansion, 1 Millennium Falcon, 1 Slave-1, 1 TIE Bomber, and 1 HWK
Planos 3700 Tackle Box to put them in
Not a big set, but I like to really use a ship a lot before I buy another. My next ships are the TIE Interceptor and A-Wing.
$530 + 2 Plano boxes and $10 in tourney fees for a game I barely get a chance to play. That $10 fee was for the AoIA event that netted me a Defender so I guess in total $525. I did something REALLY stupid that didn't help in wanting to do an A-wing list so I tried stripping paint off 3 of the 4 I had and ended up destroying them, to which I ran out and replaced them and just painted over the red stripe.
Actually, I bought a B and Y alt art cards off eBay as well so there's another $10 I guess.
$535 total or so.
Eh... ~$80 or so? Nothing too crazy.
Retail on my 30 ships would be...
Core x2 = $80
Large ships x3 = $90
Imperial Aces x2 = $60
Small ships x17 = $255
So $485 retail. However, one of my X-Wings was gotten for $10 from a transport pack I split. Two small ships were from an online retailer for $10 each, as well. And the rest of it is from my FLGS at 35% off. Recalculating...
That's $305.50. Then on top of that, I'd say at least half was actually store credit earned over about a year of tournaments ($60). So my final total would be more like $212.75. Just $7.09/ship.
So next question for those who have invested alot....are you playing with everything?
I am looking to buy wave 4, thdn fine tuning my collection for maximum play.
Rebels only , no big ships, no epic ships, only single of each so managed to stay at around 80 pounds'with wave 4 orders (have to ship my stuff from UK, local retailers have only core set)
(Ok, I only play 4 ship rebels, but there is 1000 variations of 4 ship rebels, so I'm happy..... But Decimator, Mara Jade, Ysard.... Dark side so tempting)
I think I'm sitting around the $850 AUD including bags and stuff. That doesn't include tournament entries etc though. My ratio of games played vs dollars spent is improving now that I'm usually getting in two or more games a week.
5 core sets, 4 of every expansion except advanced, xwing, and tie. 5 bwing and tie bombers, 2 of each large ship, 2 transports, 1 CR90, throw in 2 imp aces, I am going to guess in ships alone, 900ish Got some of the core sets at the big target sale, most of the rest from MM.
Edited by DarthfishSometimes I cringe when I think about the money I have spend. Looking at my signature and the mats, the KR Multiceses and supplies, tournament fees and Applied Perspective tokens, rules and other stuff, my guess is around 2500. And that includes wave 4 and rebel aces preorders.
Edited by Wookie Hunter$625 on ships alone, retail value. However, I get all my stuff cheaper. MM had a B-wing sale a long while back where they were half off, only paid $60 for my Corvette, and the Transport was all store credit. Plus, I got my mom to buy me all of wave 1 while I was home from college, as this was before it was reprinted and they were highly sought after. I've also gotten a couple other people to pitch in for ships too. I know one guy bought one of my bombers, and another got a Firespray.
Now, I've spent around $50 on storage, $80 on custom templates and tokens...Jeez, this is why I don't add this stuff up. And I haven't even ordered my Wave 4 stuff yet...gonna get two of everything there...so that's another $80 on MM, which would have been 120.
Why is this game so awesome? Why do I like collecting things? WHY DOES MY WALLET CRY
Add another £40 to my running total, please.
