Old hand at Miniatures, New to X-Wing! And how I am storing them

By dieseldog49, in X-Wing

Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a long time tabletop strategy player, I have been playing them sinceI was a kid, from 40K to Battletech (still play that one when I go to PAX every year) to A few Wiz kids products. I had retired myself about 3 years ago due to frustration with the current scene and the rising expense. However a few weeks back I just discovered X-Wing! And I could not be more excited about it, I saw it while hunting for a particular board game and ended up watching the tabletop extended playthrough and fell in love with the movement system.

So I managed to lay my hands on a base set on Craigslist for $20 then realized it was actually 2 base sets in 1 box (Score!). That was last week and since then I may have kind have gone head first before I even played a proer game.

:D

I also re assembled my tabletop gaming table

Its 6x4ft and has a 1x1 inch grid with a protective mat on top.

Onto storage!

For carrying my new collection I whipped out the same box that I have been using to carry my Minis for almost a decade.

In the top right hand compartment

I find paper towels are excellent for storing models, however I will be getting foam of some sort later.

Anywho, seems like a great community from what I have read on the boards so far. By the way I live Right by Boise Idaho, so if anyone is local and wants to play some fun games (I don't play seriously. Ever.) Shoot me a PM!

EDIT: Also FFG PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Announce the Imperial couterparts to the Epic ships, I desperately need large scale battles with big ships on both sides!

Welcome aboard! This is a great game and a great community!

I see you have seriously decked out your fleet, and it's STILL cheap compared to the gouging you would take from Games Workshop!

I wish I was near you so we could play some goof games, but I think you'll find ample players in that region!

Yeah, the cost of entry was another really attractive quality to me, I think all in all I am $224 into the hobby now and I have almost all of the ships in the game.

We both have played the same games, and spent thousands of bucks on the 40k stuff. X-Wing outpaces 40K in so many ways. X-Wing is easily the best miniatures game on the market.

Got back from my first game a little while ago, had to take a nap as we played for 6.5 hours strait. I also got to introduce a buddy who has never played before to the game which was awesome!

The ease of learning to play, is one of this game's main strengths. Most children of 7 or 8 can learn the rules easily. All the rules are smaller and easier than a tax instruction form. It has great complexity and replayability because of the customization aspects. The theme is SOLID and attracts a WIDE(literally(myself included) and demographically) player base. I have heard this quote several times at my LGS "I don't like miniatures games, but X-Wing is FUN!" as they walk out with a core set and some other ships. No assembly, painting, faction books, tape measures, spread sheets, terrain, LARGE tomes FULL of rules, and douchy companies. As quickly as you can open the core set and sort out the bits, you can start to PLAY THE GAME.

Brilliant.

I started X-wing 7 months ago and it ruined 40k for me, i saw how quick to play the game was how well written the rules were and how much cheaper it is to play, and on top of that its fun!

40k is slow and bloated and not alot of fun to play, and the prices are insane these days, then to top things off they rush out 7th that just makes the game slower and more random so i quite.

It isn't until you see a company that cares about its game that you realise GW don't care even a little about their games, all they want is to sell you models and to hell with your enjoyment as long as they have your money.

Welcome!!! I played warhhammer fantasy and 40K, and a big fan of Heroclix....now xwing destroyed my other hobbies lol. Great start up collection. Hope to see you in the forums!
