R5-P9 usage

By PhrisbeePhul, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have been searching, with little luck, for a clarification on the R5-P9 stomach's ability. It reads "At the end of the

Combat phase, you may spend 1 of your focus tokens to recover 1 shield [up to your shield value]." My question is how many focus tokens you could spend per turn with this ability, like if you were able to load up the pilot using Kyle Katarn's or Garven Dreis' abilities. I can see the interpretation going either way to be honest; and i'd like to get some clarity. If this has been ruled on already i'd appreciate if someone could show me where i can find the clarification; it doesn't seem to be addressed in the FAQ published on FFG website. Thanks!

Only 1 per trigger, so 1 shield per end-phase, irrespective of the number of Focus Tokens you have available for spending.

I thought that might be the case; the fact that it says "spend 1 of your focus tokens..." That's the key part for one activation? It's too bad; I thought three ship list with Biggs running the R5-p9 with a moldy crow would have been hysterical.

No. The card would work the same way if it read "At the end of the Combat phase, you may spend a focus token..."

The key rule is in the FAQ:

A game effect can only resolve once per opportunity. For example, Luke Skywalker’s pilot ability applies “when defending,” so he can only use his ability once against each enemy attack.

If it has said something like: :At the end of the Combat phase you may recover one shield (up to your max) for each Focus token spend this way."
