Wave 6 Expansion Pack - Meet the Azzameens!

By TrojanPoints, in X-Wing

I've always thought an expansion based on Alliance would be fun. I'd buy it with or without repainted ships.

I love that pilot ability for Ace in the x wing. Oh the fun I'd have with him and Dutch and Garven!

"Originally owned by Tomaas Azzameen, the ship was heavily modified to improve both speed and firepower (...)"

"Following the upgrade to its weapons, the Otana also had a forward facing laser cannon which could be fired linked with the two turrets. A single forward facing ion cannon provided the pilot with the ability to disable enemy vessels,[1] while the ship could carry a load of concussion missiles or other warheads in its twin warhead launchers."

Otana Title Card: Upgrades Bad gains the Canon Upgrade icon?

Love the cards!

I would have made Ace Piloting 7 to line it up with Maarek as previously suggested.

I was thinging of MK-09 as a Crew Member (and thus having no Astromech slot on the YT-2000, only a single Crew Member)... I do like your solution too, though! "Mine" means Emkay is available to every large ship, yours means it's available to some starfighters and that the YT-2000 (and the Sabra) get access to every other astromech... Not experienced enough with the game to figure out the exact implications of each option...

Mind if I use your cards (will due credit of course) in a other post on my blog?

Thanks! I particularly liked Emon's ability - I was trying to get it to reflect his wiki description:

"Emon was hot-headed, rash and violent... along with his impulsive nature came a great deal of impatience, and a strong desire to simply get things done as quickly as possible. Emon's fiery temper often got him in to dangerous situations that could have easily been otherwise avoided..."

So - he can race in to cause damage to a more skilled opponent, but he puts himself into danger doing it. I was considering the rule to be "change one blank result to a crit", but figured that may be taking it a little too far! ;)

Hmmm.... now that makes me want to rework the YT-2000's weapons entirely, to differentiate it from the other YT-class ships. Maybe a front-arc 2 or 3 attack dice primary weapon, with the ability to take turrets as an upgrade? Then we give the Otana title card the ability to fire both weapons at a single target, as long as the target is within the front arc? That might be interesting...

So the Otana would be able to either

A: Fire at a target in it's front arc with it's primary weapon (or missiles if equipped)

B: Fire at a target in a 360 arc with a turret weapon (if equipped)

C: Fire at a target in a 360 arc with a turret weapon, then at a different target in it's front arc with it's primary weapon (if turret & gunner are equipped) or

D: Fire at a single target in it's front arc with BOTH it's primary weapon and secondary weapon (if a secondary weapon AND the Otana title are equipped, no need for Gunner...)

Of course, feel free. I'm just brain storming really. I thought of making EmKay a crew member, but then thought that an interesting way to make the Azzameen YT's different from the rest would be to open up the use of Astromechs... TBH I haven't really looked at what combinations it might open up either though, there might be some ridiculous combinations available lol

Ace's pilot skill reduced to 7 - in line with Keyan Farlander and Maarek Stele, as suggested. I've also clarified his pilot ability - you now need to choose whether to use the focus for an extra dice BEFORE making the attack roll.

I've also revised the YT-2000 to have a 3 dice front-arc primary and the turret upgrade, and added the Otana title plus a YT-1300 pilot card for Ace and a crew card for Aeron.

So, outfit the Otana with a Blaster Turret or Ion Turret and it could be quite a nasty little ship, as in the game. Ace + Otana + Blaster Turret will give you plenty of attacking options, but some difficult decisions on where to spend your focus tokens...

This is a good start. Can't wait to see what stats you come up with for all of them.

It is a really good point about Keyan Farlander and Maarek Stele making it into the game though. The protagonists of the original X-Wing game and TIE Fighter are present and correct, so why not the Azzameens?

Why not K'Armyn Viraxo and the Black Sun, for that matter?

Not sure what you'd have K'Armyn flying...

As for a Black Sun faction... Personally, I love the fact that FFG is staying away from introducing new factions and only throw a few fringers solidly aligned with one of the two big players into the mix.

A lot of miniature games have craploads of factions and while it probably make sense from a commercial and maybe even competitive point of view, it makes organising a campaign that makes any sense from a fluff point of view a huge pain if not outright impossible! Take 40K: let's say you've got six friends with armies, chances are at least three of them play factions that hates each other's guts! Good luck casting them into two sides without either throwing all the fluff away or at least painfully stretching everyone's disbelief with weak excuses for unnatural alliances between Eldars, Orks and Necrons...

K'Armyn would likely be waltzing around in a SoroSuub Luxury Yacht. Or a System Patrol Craft.

But yeah, I don't ever see X-Wing following in the (ridiculously OTT) footsteps of Warhammer, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for pirates & smugglers in the game.

The Black Sun were a thorn in the side of both the Rebels and the Empire, raiding supply convoys, disrupting shipping lanes, and dealing with / to both sides (for a price). Pirates, bounty hunters and mercenary groups in general were widespread throughout the time of the Galactic Civil War.

Plus of course, they fielded a huge range of pretty sweet ships. ;)
