I feel like FFG pushes them to fill all upgrade slots in the builds for these articles, and non-Metagame aware lists. That pretty much relegates Phantoms to 3 ship builds.Interesting that all his suggested builds are 3 ship builds.
I mean, they don't even mention the basic Vet instincts an Advanced Cloaking minimalistic Echo over the course of the list. Yet I guarantee we'll see that on more phantoms than anything else.
If that is the Phantom build we expect to see the most, won't the "better" build be the one with more upgrades that lets you counter the mass # of phantoms we might see?
I know we all talk about "countering the Phantom" with turrets and such, but how do we "counter the Phantom" WITH a Phantom? The answer is likely: more upgrades. At least some of your matchups will come down to Phantom vs Phantom, after all. And nothing in the minimalistic build gives you an edge.
FFG Write-up On the Phantom
Actually the list they have with the RGPs is one quite close to my own. Though I usually run echo with VI+FCS+AdC then with two RGPs with hull+stealth+PtL. Only lost once with that list so far and that was to a VI boba fett squad.
Edited for proof reading and autocorrect failures.
Edited by Hujoe BigsWell, decloaking says,"perform a 2 fwd maneuver" (I think, I'm not at home) so I always thought you had to use the guides.
Echos power turns it into the 2 bank template instead of 2 foward

Actually you lost three times in this post alone, so . . .

I apologize, I was eating my lunch and typing on my phone with my other hand. Thought I was hitting the I and not the O, didn't proof read so I didn't notice. Glad you took my typing as the main part of my comment and not actually realize it was an honest mistake.
Have to agree with people of recent, this board has become way to hostile, elitest, and netdecky.
I have been running this squad. My opponent has to decide to go after Echo or the RGs & Howlrunner. Ether can cause a lot of damage if ignored.
Echo w/ Rebel Captive, Veteran Instincts, ACD

Hostile yes...Elitest I don't see a lot of...netdecky? I think the new ships hitting now will destroy any sort of Netdecky that currently exists.
I think we all can make sure our jokes are seen as jokes more often...it's easy to forget how easily things get lost in translation without inflection, tone, and body language. Please, don't use more emoticons though. Please no.

*too. "too hostile" is what you were going for there.
Bahaha
Regardless of all else, Phantom use will be huge. It will draw out a big use of Z-95s to counter it. Interestingly, stealth, plays no role in reducing one's ability to acquire a target lock. I would think that a cloaked ship like the Phantom would be harder to lock onto....
Edited by EmpireErikIt would be interesting to have to role to acquire a target lock, then role to hit. Makes stealth, slippery.

I was surprised as well when cloak was released and didn't have an anti-TL mechanism too. Didn't expect the maneuver shenanigans it got though so that would have been bonkers on top of it all.

Please can someone explain to me how echo can move? Im completly confused. He can use the barrel roll, but I dont understand the first graphic in the article (the one with the movements A to F). Does he can move the 2 turn to his left or right side? Does that means he can change the direction he´s facing?
I only understood he can get to points, C and D. But how can he manage to move to A, B , E and F?
Well... i read the article as well and was actually wondering about something else tho...
In the last few sentences about how to fly against a Phantom..
"Even the most extraordinary pilots have weaknesses that others can exploit. In the case of “Echo,” the effectiveness of his maneuverability is significantly reduced by turret weapons. Forcing stress upon him with Tactician, Flechette Torpedoes , or Rebel Captive leaves him unable to cloak after firing and , therefore, extremely vulnerable to attack, as does the use of ships with higher pilot skills; they can fire on him before he can use his Advanced Cloaking Device."
If i understood the ACD correct it gives you the free action... i might be wrong since im still learning but...
How does stress prevent me from free actions?
Stress prevents you from taking actions, including free actions. You can however recieve and spend tokens, so Kyle or Garven can give a focus to a stressed pilot, but Lando can't allow them to take a free action.
Core Rulebook Pg. 17:

The decloak "action" (for lack of a better word since it is no action or a movement) states to use the 2 template as either a BARREL ROLL or FORWARD "movement".
Since Echos ability states to use the BANK 2 template instead of the straight he will end up at A, B, E or F.
Core Rulebook Pg. 17:
StressThere are several factors that can cause pilotsstress, such as executing difficult (red) maneuvers(see Step 4 on page 7). While a ship has at leastone stress token, it cannot execute redmaneuvers or perform any actions (evenfree actions) .
Thanks so much for clarification...
Maybe i should get a tattoo of the rulebook on my belly (its big enough tho)
Also thanks to pbpancho for that info.

So technically if he uses the Bank 2 template to get to point F, he is moving (althought its not a movement, lets call it positioning) backwards?

You are quite about the boards becoming too hostile, however I also hope you realize that jumping to conclusions about what people are saying and snapping at them is hostile as well. Just saying.
Edited by RevanchistAaand and back on topic, I think the fear of Phantoms on the imperial side might lead to the mini swarm lists dying off, as both the phantom and the Z-95 can put a crimp in their day. Could be wrong, though.
I also think the Defender + EU will help counter the Phantoms. That white K-turn with a bank means that you should (theoretically) be able to line up a bead on them easier.
Interesting. The idea that the Phantom and Z-95s will end the "mini-swarms" when the Z-95 itself may introduce more of a "swarm" attitude in Rebel squadrons.

More or less yes... but you have to imagine him flying a barrel roll where it makes more sense then when you think about it... it is a sideways curved movement... not really backwards...
I got nothing you could use as a reference for that... use your imagination
Maybe try to think of a roller coaster where you have these screwdriver loops... you start forward but end up on the side... kinda the same maneuver...
