Slaves and guards

By Mooknee, in Game Masters

Hi all,

I am starting a new campaign and am stuck on next step.

Here is basic plot: slaves are being held captive by ??. The guards find a way to free them (somehow hired to release them), they flee ?? together.

I am stuck on the who.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Hutts, black sun, Sluidar crime kingpin, imperials, corporate sector authority, pikes, pirate-slavers...

Have you played the adventure in the beginner set, Escape from Mos Shuuta ? It has a similar set up and rolls into a another adventure that is free online, Long Arm of the Hutt .

What kind of slaves? The usual non-skilled unnecessarily dirty types? Gladiators? Pleasure slaves? Unwilling medical test subjects? Indentured professionals (doctors, engineers, etc.)? What type of slaves you're talking about makes a huge difference in how this type of adventure gets set up.

You also need to think about who your PCs are going to be.

Will some of them be the slaves? If so, it might cause problems for them starting with equipment.

Fortunately, the starting equipment allowance is only 500 credits, so it's no big loss. Just tell them not to take on Obligation for extra credits at the start.

Well, the only problem I see with that is that I think the baseline starting credit amount is way too freaking low.

Unless you find some creds fast, the PCs will be struggling the first few encounters what with having nothing of note beyond a blaster pistol and some other misc stuff.

Taking on extra obligation so you can have some real equipment seems almost mandatory, unless everyone is cool building up from literally nothing.

So, like starting as escaped slaves (of the unnecessarily dirty type) then? ;)

an idea from a game i am currently running, but hasn't happened yet (if you are playing in my game, get out of this thread! lol):

(i'll leave out proper nouns, because they are only specific to my campaign).

slaves are being used for medical tests on a small backwater planet _____. the slaves are a wide assortment of different species. they were tricked into coming to the planet by a variety of techniques, mostly by slavers (one group in particular, which the PCs already have beef with). the PCs rescue the slaves, but then learn that they are being tested on in order to develop vaccine for a bioweapon, believed to be in the hands of ______ (like the 'empire' or something - we are actually playing in 38 ABY, so it's some other group) that will kill billions, if a vaccine/cure isn't found soon.

classic "save 100 or save 100 billion" catch.

Thanks everyone for the reminders and ideas!

In the one we have going, some of the PC's are actually the slaves. Some of the other PCs are the guards that are going to free the slaves.

The ideas I'm thinking of are:

1) the guards (some) had known the slaves, prior and are freeing them out of friendship.

2) the guards were hired by an outside agency that is trying to prtiect the slaves

3) guards are hired by an unknown organization and the slaves also do not know either the slaves or the organization that is backing the attempt. (My favorite, since it can lead to other events down the line.)
