FFG suported campaign system?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

Ok,

I have seen other online games attempt keeping track of a campaign map for their games.

If FFG or an affiliate started up a website that tracked battle reports across a galactic map similar to STAR WARS EMPIRE AT WAR, where your local game store reported your battles to this website.

say each planet or system is worth 1000 points. every 100 point battle you win puts 100 points of that 1000 in your factions control. the faction with the majority controls the system. if you fight an epic 300 point battle, then 300 points will change hands or be defended. the campaign will continue until 1 side control a set number of worlds/systems or take control of the enemies base planet/system.

then the website will send out weekly updates on the state of the rebelion and empire to the players. they could even send out warnings and calls to arms when a planet/system is near being lost/won to both factions.

Example: ALERT! ALERT! All imperial pilots. Bespin is under siege and in danger of falling to the rebellion. Report for duty and crush the rebel scum to keep Bespin for our empire.

this will give the feeling of purpose to many a casual gamer and making it run through the LGS will keep people from entering false reports to cheat.

now i was just using 1000 points as an example, but in a game this popular and wide spread, i would expect the points total to be between 10,000 - 20,000 with more important planets/systems being worth more.

this also opens up room for special scenarios for battles.

so my question is this, would there be enough of you people out there that would be part of this? or would you think it a waste of time?

I don't know if we'll ever see an official campaign, but you're welcome to take part in the Unofficial X-Wing Galactic Campaign that I run.

I'd certainly participate. I also participate in Dagobah Dave 's campaign. (Three more battle reports coming, hopefully, tonight. Not great times for the Empire I'm afraid. I was 1:2 tonight).

Here's the thing; while it would be awesome for FFG to do this, it's not something that FFG is necessary for. What it takes is some grassroots organizing. I'm trying to get to know everybody who's playing here in Portland, OR and eventually I'm hoping this can lead to setting up a big campaign.

(Friend/message me if you're in the area and are interested in doing something like this.)
