Stand off vs Red Lotus

By Protoaddict, in UFS Rules Q & A

red lotus:

R Commit: After your opponent plays an ability that commits, destroys, or removes a card fromy our staging area, cancel that ability's effects. If your character is Kyo, you may discard 1 momentum to play this ability instead of committing this card.

Standoff:

E Commit 2 foundations: This attack gets -4 damage. Your opponent may commit 2 foundations to cancel this effect.

Simple question, can red lotus commit to cancel the standoff enhance because the stand off enhance can potentially commit foundations as part of its bail out clause?

The agreement we came to is that Red Lotus may not negate Stand Off because the escape clause isn't technically part of the "effects" of Stand Off, same reason Lizardman* wouldn't trigger anti-discard actions and other abilities.

This fringe case - abilities with built in negation - got missed when the TR was redone. It'll be added to the next revision.

I'm confused about this interaction. Red Lotus can negate an opponants effect which would remove/destroy/commit a card in YOUR staging area. How does this tie in to Stand Off, which allows an opponant to commit 2 of their own foundtaions to stop your +4/-4?

The question was if "My red lotus" can negate "your stand off", which is a no.
