How would the game be different if colliding didn't remove actions?

I guess the real question is why aren't both parties to a collision penalized by losing their actions?

Because one group already took their action. Would you take away their boost or barrel roll if they suddenly got hit? What if that meant they didn't get hit. Do they get to pick another action. It gets messy.

It would be like Attack Wing.

Actually in Attack Wing you cannot take actions when you bump. You can however shoot.

Two groups of ships would fly straight towards one another, run into one another, and proceed to roll dice until the game is over. Pretty much all maneuvering of any sort would go away.

Not really. There is more to manoeuvring in this game than just blocking/avoiding blocking!! The only exception would be if all ships had turrets, in which case what you've said would be true.

Parravon, I see your point, but both pilots are concentrating , neither is really concentrating on the attack. Blocking is a part of the game, it history it has a valid basis, but is was not a deciding factor. Some pilots are aces for a reason, they are able to fly their unit better and handle the stress better and are able to avoid a lesser skilled pilots manauvers and still accomplish what they want to do. I think the only change I would consider is either a pilot skill that a certain level pilot could have where he could say roll a single defense die and on an evade he would avoid the collision and stop just short of the other craft, or just a general rule that would allow a certain level pilot say 7 and above that has at least a 3 level advantage on the pilot of the other craft a die roll like previously mentioned. Again after all better pilots are better for a reason
