ABXY? Why not TAIB?

The rebel scum toolbox lists seem to be doing quite well. We we emulate something similar for the Empire?

The base would be 67 points, allowing for up to 33 points for better pilots, upgrades, or more ships.

If I'm going to have a TIE Advanced, it's gonna be Vader. Otherwise, it's mediocre. And Soontir Fel + PtL. Always.

For this type of activity you'd have to start with Vader. Not sure if it will have the Toolbox fx you're looking for though.

I've been playing a similar list to the ABXY (AXXY - don't have a B-Wing yet), and this idea really intrigued me as I've been wanting to play with my imperials a bit more.

I think the best way to start is to break down why the ABXY list works. These lists are usually built around Garven and Dutch buffing the rest of the squad. The B-Wing is the heavy hitter (my list has wedge in this role), whilst the A-Wing flies around as a distraction, a blocker and sneaking through the odd hit here and there when it can close to range 1 and gets double buffed from Dutch and garven. The ion turret also helps with allowing you to bring everything to bear on a tricksy target. I think it works because, to quote someone else on these forums, in the world of rocks, paper and scissors, the man with the multitool is king.

So what are the imperial tools you can put together into your toolbox..?

Howlrunner seems an obvious starting point, and given how cheap she is gives you plenty of room for the other 3 ships. However, she's got 3 hp and 2 attack.

Vader with squad leader seems good too, allowing a more versatile buff to be passed around. But he's pricey and only 2 attack. Even the Y wing is usually better than this by virtue of the turret.

Next you need a distraction. This the imperials do better than the rebels, because an interceptor has 3 attack so is harder to just ignore. That said, I think it's best to keep him cheap and expendable. Alpha squadron pilot, no upgrades.

Finally, the heavy hitter. I'm not sure the bomber fits this role without stacking up the ordnance, which I don't think you can do with this list. Better I think is the defender, and if you take the delta you've got 3 points left over for an ion cannon (my mind is split about this, the ion ability works great for the rebel list, but the imperial version is much more mobile and I don't think you want to limit the damage you heavy hitter is putting out, or give howlrunner swarm tactics or hull or stealth to make her more survivable.

Here's what I'd do:

Vader, squad leader

Howlrunner, Hull

Alpha

Delta

Compared to the rebels it's much more mobile and harder to hit, although has a little less hp and attack power. Overall I think it could work bit needs some testing.

You're relying on missiles, and the extra action from Vader makes it easy to combine F +TL.

I wouldn't use a naked Vader in this squad. He's not going to keep up with the squints, and they have PtL anyway and the shuttle doesn't really benifit from an extra action without any upgrades. Lastly, Vader's damage output is to anemic at two dice even with a F/TL.

A bomber with a missles and a cannon for the shuttle would be better, IMO.

I tried out an Imperial Toolbox list today.

Turr Phennir w/ Push and a hull upgrade

Scimitar Squadron w/ Flechette and Seismic charge

I went 3 and 1 in a 4 way tie for first out of 17.

It worked pretty well.

Shredded 4Xs, 3 squints and a tie, and a Roark, B-Wing, Wedge, Rookie list.

I lost my first game to some terrible flying. My lambda got off one shot, and Turr couldn't do more than 1 damage at a time in range 1 of a B-Wing.

I am trying to find a way to build a Carnor + Bomber list. Should do good theoretically, don't know how to build it yet, but it's a WIP

What are you thinking for approach? Loop Carnor around the back and rob them of defensive tokens on the Alpha Strike?

The only issue I see is don't use Assault missiles.

Which is probably how it will fly.
