Hyperdrives Class

By arunwe2012, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is there a section in the core book that specifies class of hyperdrives? from other sw games I know there are .5, .75 and .1, .2, etcetera, but I don't know if this is true for EoTE.

It's important for modifications on the hyperdrive generator that my group plans to acquire.

In the improved hyperdrive component (starship mods) it states you can modifiy it to as low as ".5".

Anything lower would be for the GM to add as part of the plot (experimental craft, stuff from unknown alien species, etc.).

One doubt, there is any canonical reference to hyperdrives speeds? I believe that not but I just wanted to be sure.

Aside from "she'll make it up to point five, past light speed" not that I know of. Though considering how hyperdrive is presented in the films there really isn't any reason to revise the established canon, so I suspect all the existing hyperdrive base info will remain as is.

Yeah, I think the designers used that quote to figure that Hyperdrives can go at .5 the base times. Light speed in that instance can be thought of as hyper speed. They just call it light speed because of the lines of light. *shrug* sounds like good BS to me.

The Falcon and military ships are capable of .5, everything else is 1 or higher as a baseline. Something as low as .2 or .1 would be an extremely experimental craft, like some strange alien artifact.

Most military ships are Class 1 or Class 2. Most civilian craft are Class 3 or higher (slower). Class 0.5 is supposed to be very rare.

Yeah, .5 is usually beyond typical manufacturer specs, and only really achievable through custom builds or heavy modifications. x2 is pretty common, with x1 usually reserved for craft built with a need for speed (couriers, military recon and strike craft). But even then most capital warships are x2 and slower. Probably safe to assume that most hyperdrives can be easily set for slower speeds too, to allow for convoys and other coordinated activities.

Well, if we read the main rulebook, most freighters are rocking a Hyperdrive between 4 and 2.

Military ships are usually a 2 or a 1. 2 seems normal for capital ships and 1 appears on Hyperspace capable fighters or high end warships.

Backups seem to range between class 10 and 20

Anything with below a class 1 has had some serious modifications or is using some very advanced technology.

That should be the case, but the Hyperdrive Generator attachment makes it trivially easy to achieve a Class 0.5 Hyperdrive on any vessel that starts with a Class 2 Hyperdrive. For most military ships - including Star Destroyers - there's really no good reason why they wouldn't have installed these on every ship with an available hard point. A cost of only 6,400 credits and Rarity 4 (the same as a blaster pistol) means that these things are not hard to get in the least.
