Multiple free action

By Replay, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi everyone,

i need your help to understand if my idea is correct or there is a mistake.

i have this situation:

Lando/yt1300 + squad leader

Rebel operative/awing

Before move awing and choose target like action, then move a 2 green Lando, and stop his move at range 1 from a-wing, so i decide to give an evade to awing for the pilot property of yt1300, then i use il push the limit to choose a second free acrion, and here I ask another evade. My opponent say that

I can not choose two time the same action, so i would like to understand.

Thank

I don't have the exact reference but somewhere in the rules you should find a line that says a ship may not take the same action twice.

I'll also note that "taking an action" is not the same as getting or spending a token although getting a token is often the result of taking an action.

A ship can only do one of each actions in a given round. You cannot do two of the same actions in a round.

Page 9 (of the English rulebook) under Other Actions "However, a ship cannot perform the same action more than once during a single game round (not even when the action is a free action)."

You have to differentiate between taking actions and gaining tokens.

Some actions, like focus action or the evade actions, net you a token when performed. For example, if you perform a focus action, you gain a focus token.

The trick with actions (even free ones) is that you can't take the same action twice in the round. That's why your opponent is right. Your A-wing can't take a free evade action granted by Calrissian, and then, perform its 'own' evade action in the same round.

However, there are also abilities that grant you tokens, but without performing any actions. For example, your A-Wing may perform the focus action and gain a focus token. But later, pilots like Garven Dreis can pass you another focus token. The difference is that the latter doesn't require your ship to perform any actions, thus, you don't violate the rule of "ships may not performing the same action twice in the round". And that's why your A-wing could end with 2 or more focus tokens. One gained by performing the focus actions, and some additional ones granted by abilities that don't require your ship to take the focus action.

Hi Jehan,

So if I understand well my a-wing move first and I can ask an evade action, then I use push the limit and I ask the concentration because I can not ask two time the same action, then after activation of Lando at range 1 from a-wing I can ask another action but not the evade or concentration (ex boost) because is always my choise and not a gain rules, then if I use squad leader I can ask another action but now I have only one avalaible the roll.

This is ok for an a-wing because have 4 action, but if I use garvin dreis/x-wing I can not use this sequence, because have only target lock and concentration, so after get the first action after activation and the second free action by "push the limits", the property of lando a squad leader are unable to give me more action.

But if my pilot of a small ship are stressed, he can receive free action from Lando and squad leader (target lock + concentration).

I hope now is all right

Thanks to all

If the pilot of the small ship is stressed, he cannot receive the free action from Lando or squad leader. Free actions are still actions, and you cannot take actions if you are stressed.

So if the a-wing takes an evade action, then push the limit and takes the concentration action (note: US version this is called focus, not concentration, to clear up any confusion of terminology you might run into), he gets a stress token, and cannot get the free action from Lando or squad leader.

If the a-wing takes an evade action, but does not push the limit for a second action, he can then get the action from Lando and squad leader.

You cannot receive free actions if you are stressed.

However, if you are planning on receiving a free action, you can trigger Push the Limit off of that free action instead of your "perform actions" step

Thx to all,

So I understand that I can not receive free action when stressed, and I can not take two time the same token action because there is no difference between action and free action.

If I take evade action with my a-wing and I'm not stressed, Lando can not give me free action evade, and the squad leader can not give me free action evade.
