Fancy Blaster Pistol

By kryss, in Game Masters

Hey everybody,

I've got a character that one of my players is going to run that is an upper class aristocrat. I'm trying to think up a fancy blaster pistol they may carry or own but I am drawing a blank. Give me some ideas, they don't need in game stats or anything like that but just want something to run with.

Thanks

There's a rather nice pistol in Enter the Unknown that could work. There's also an innately Superior pistol in Suns of Fortune.

Is it mechanically fancy in anyway? Or does it just appear to be fancy?

If it's only fancy by appearance, any blaster will work, just describe it has being made of some precious metals and encrusted with gems or something.

There's the Cornet Arms H-7 "Equalizer" Blaster Pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/288/ ), the Sorosuub X-30 Lancer Precision Blast Pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/230/ ) , the Cornet Arms Dueling Pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/286/ ) , the Cornet Arms HL-27 Light Blaster Pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/287/ ) , the Relby-K23 blaster pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/246/ ) , or the Duelist Blaster Pistol (see http://swrpg.viluppo.net/equipment/weapons/193/ ).

Of these, the "Equalizer" is the most expensive, at 1200 credits. The Cornet Arms Dueling Pistol does the most damage, but is Limited Ammo. The Lancer has Range: Long. The last two are Adversary weapons that would not normally be available to PCs, and of those the Duelist Blaster Pistol is nice in that it is Accurate 2, even though it only does as much damage as a Holdout Blaster.

All of these have attributes like Superior, or Accurate, or Pierce, and could make interesting weapons for an aristocrat to carry.

As for myself, I quite like the Sorosuub OK-98 Blaster Carbine, used as a pistol -- ignore or remove the collapsing stock. With some mods, that can be quite a nice/nasty little piece, depending on which side you're on.

Sweet! the Duelist Blaster Pistol was exactly what I was looking for! Sounds nice and fopish, just like this character.

I understand liking carbines, but a better answer is out there. Our Hired Gun (Enforcer, Marauder) is fond of a blaster rile with forearm grip and pistol grip as his firearm of choice. It uses Ranged (Light) and can be used one-handed (although at the cost of a Setback die and I've ruled that the Forearm Grip and its Mods don't apply when used-one-handed). Anytime concealment isn't needed, it's the "little big gun" of choice.

I've thought about that combination, but the Blaster Carbine does as much damage as a regular Blaster Rifle, although it does lose one range band.

However, the Sorosuub OK-98 Blaster Carbine (base damage 9) has some really nice modifications that can be made to take it into the damage range of an HRB. First off, there's the built in dual power supply, which can be modified to use both power supplies at the same time, thus adding two points of damage to each shot (now 11). Then you should be able to add a Blaster Actuation Module, which can increase damage by as much as three points and add one point of Pierce (now 14). The Superior Weapon customization can add another point of damage (now 15).

Yeah, it's going to be real "exciting" when the thing blows up on a Despair, but that's part of the fun -- yes?

On the flip side, the Blaster Rifle can have most of the same modifications made, although you would have to use an extra HP for the Czerka H9 Pistol Grip. For that matter, the regular Blaster Carbine can also have most of those same mods, and has a lower Encumbrance.

But with regards to my character concept, the OK-98 Blaster Carbine just fits a lot better than a Blaster Rifle or a regular Blaster Carbine with virtually all the same mods.

The damage increasing barrel can only be used with blaster rifles and heavy blaster rifles, not with blaster carbines. That is precisely why we opt for the rifle (at an extra 50 credits and 1 Encumbrance) even though we don't yet have the money for the barrel attachments.

That's a GM call. From my reading of the Weapon Attachments section, it seemed that one of them was designed for pistol-like weapons and the other was designed for rifle-like weapons. Therefore, since the OK-98 is basically a pistol with an extending shoulder stock, it should be able to receive the Blaster Actuating Module attachment.

But that's a GM call.

As for myself, the OK-98 is just a better fit for my character concept. Even if I can't use either of the barrel attachment options, it is still a better fit for my character concept, and I'll take the built-in mod that is unique to it.

I'd have recommended a SoroSuub ELG-3A blaster pistol. It's so gaudy, it screams "rich guy".

Or it can scream "Padme". :P

Seriously, since virtually any picture can go along with virtually any stat, it would be fine to pair up this picture with whatever stat you want, and be done with it.
