Rolling narative dice in combat

By KillingTime, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello All

I've hunted high and low for definitive answers and I'm possibly just being dense, but can someone point me to a page in the rule book that clarifies exactly what the outcomes are for rolling dice in combat.

Up until last night we had been playing that in order to score a single hit you need to have at least one success. Any more successess would be stacked into additional damage, while any advantages will be counted towards crits etc.

So far so good.

However, it then became apparent that by the wording of the FAQ, all positive successes on the dice will translate into extra damage, meaning that the base damage of a weapon is actually 1 lower than the damage you can ever actuallly score, since the first success needed to even score a hit will also boost the damage by 1.

Is this correct?

What happens if the successess and fails cancel each other perfectly with no net fails? Until now we have been treating this as a fail, though nothing bad will happen with such a minor fail.

Is it just as likely that it could be a minor pass?

Thanks

the info you seek is on pages 204-206. ("performing a combat check")

to answer our questions, you are correct on both accounts.

if successes and failures cancel each other out you miss. you need at least 1 uncancelled success to hit.

also, as you need at least 1 success, you will always increase base damage at least once if you hit.
