Modification card question

By Binderchk, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm building a 100 point squad with tie fighters for a swarm. I am wondering what is the rule for modification cards. I want to give 4 ships Hull Upgrade and only have 2 cards. Are you limited to the 2 cards or are you allowed to make (or print out) cards for these modifications or still add these modifications to my squad as this doesn't take me over the 100 point limit but puts me at the limit of 100 points. Or are they restricted to how many cards you have?

Casual play amongst friends, proxy the cards.

If you want to play in an FFG Organized Play event (and many store tournaments) and you'll be expected to have the actual cards, no proxies or printed cards. That requirement is per the Tournament Rules from FFG.

For tournament-play, you have to use cards that actually came with ships.
Anything else is called "Proxying".

However, most leagues will let you proxy upgrades for non-tournaments. Just make sure you've got one of each card so you can reference the rules properly, and talk to the folks running the get-together.

The only restrictions on upgrades are that you cannot cram two upgrades into the same "Slot", and that your total fleet cannot cost more than (X), where (X) is the standard fleet-size you're building (in your case, 100).

So, you can theoretically field 6 Tie Fighters with Hull Upgrades, but you cannot field 1 Tie Fighter with 6 Hull Upgrades.

Ok. Thanks for the replies. I'm playing casual with some friends so I will just proxy for our play.

I'd say that even if you are playing with friends you'd better check with them before you proxy cards.

Although some may hate this statement if you are "playing casual" then you still should NOT be using proxies. Maybe as a test but for normal use you'd be using them to make your squadron stronger which seems to go AGAINST the idea of "casual" play. Play with the cards you actually do have, or can borrow, and if that means using something less than optimal you may just find yourself a new trick.
