Okay, i have been looking around for this answer it came up in Regionals. I am just curious if you can barrel roll and touch another ship so that they can't attack you. Is that something you can do. I guess I just took it for granted that you couldn't touch another ship at all.

Nope, it is in the rules for Barrel Roll action. "A ship cannot perform a barrel roll if this would cause its base to overlap another ship or obstacle token. The player may measure to see if his ship can perform a barrel roll before committing to this action."

The short answer is no, you can't do that. The kind of touching that prevents attacks is caused by resolving an overlap. Since a barrel roll can never cause an overlap, it never counts as "touching".
