VT-49 Decimator as a support ship

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

It will be a great weapons platform, but its crew slots help with supporting the rest of your squad quite handily. Perhaps, as stated earlier, command ship is a better description? :)

Yeah, that does sound better.

Still, I do think true support crew like the Fleet Officer are better placed on a shuttle, leaving the Decimator free to shoot.

Vader (crew) belongs on a cheap Shuttle imho, instead, the Decimator should do as its name implies, DECIMATE.

I guess the question is, would a Falcon player deliberately suffer damage - in order to deal crits - if he could?

I wouldn't.

I don't know, I think putting a Vader on one could help kill those 1HP stragglers, giving you a fresh target to shoot at the next round. After all, just because you have a Vader doesn't mean you need to use him every turn, and with dangerous but expensive 4 THP ships like the Phantom buzzing around that final blow can be quite devastating.

I do like the idea of a Decimator with Expert Handling, Mara Jade, Weapons Engineer and Gunner paired with Vessery in the Defender.

That is a very shooty list with great command and control from the Deci...

If I can get an unnamed Decimator at around 38ish pts, I would gladly drop Vader and Gunner into it. Puts me at 46, and leave 54 to play with. Turn that into Carnor and Soontir, and the game should be hell for your opponents.

I think the best way to keep the Decimator in for the longest period in game would be to have a pilot with a Chewy like ability. How the VT handles the incoming crits is going to be the deciding factor on if the VT can hang with a TIE wing or if it's going to drop like a paper airplane in a rainstorm.

I agree with this here. Let's use the Falcon as a template. It has a highly survivable pilot, a supporting pilot, and a heavy-hitting pilot. We have seen a heavy-hitting pilot in the Rear Admiral. Now, they definitely will not reprint Chewbacca's ability, but I would like to see one that makes it more durable, as well as one that grants a supportive bonus.

Doomimator: Decimator + Vader + intimidate?

I'm hoping intimidate allows a defensive boost against lower PS pilots and some other mild always on benefit. Would fit with the ship, the new fight against low PS, and very flavorful. Plus the decimator really needs some way to mitigate just a few points of damage.

I still like the idea of a reverse support ship. A ship that steals tokens from the ships escorting it. So instead of supporting, it gets supported by all the other ships. Since the empire are kind of the bad guys it kind of fits to take from the weak and give to the strong. 4 evade tokens from ties could make for some good protection.

Interesting and thematic, but awful. Your support will go down like a sack of bricks. Then you'll go down without any support to leech off of.

I don't know about "all tokens" but if you could just "Steal" one that might be cool. Give those AP's and Black Squads a little more use.

A few Black Squadron with Draw their Fire may come in handy with a Decimator....

I like the idea from a thematic point of view and you could certainly make it something like # of friendly small vessels within range 2 = number of additional agility at the cost of 1 agility per friendly small vessel. Card name something like Defensive Pattern Bravo ( VT-49 only ).

That's really good. The best thing is that the support craft can peel off and do their own thing after they escort the Decimator past the initial tough exchange. That third agility on ties is only a little bit better than 2 with evade. Decimator with three agility is suddenly crazy tough to kill. Then the ties can do whatever they want. Break off and harass or keep escorting to prevent head on attacks. The problem is this kind of ability would probably be the top pilot because it is way too good to be the second guy.

Yea, I'm always tempted to put together Decimators in squad builders, but without knowing what the cards like Ysane Isard and all the other pilots its a futile effort.

The Deci's game will also get changed once again then the epic imperials drop and make more crew cards and upgrades. It will be quite interesting.

Make it the Title card since it hasn't been released, to the best of my knowledge...
