Is it time?

By computertrucker, in Deathwatch

To start love the game, as does the group I have been running for the last year and a half. However right now we are on a break from me running. Got a friend running iron kingdoms for a bit.

Now onto the topic. When I invite a new player to the game and tell him all be really needs to get to play is the core rule book but be sure to either print off the errata which is pages long or go over it thoroughly when building your character. It makes me wonder.. Also when changes made many times dont translate well to other stats that weren't changed such as weapon damages vs some of the damage resistances of bad guys.

Also don't get me started about the core rule books layout. In 32 years of gaming. I will attest that the deathwatch core rule book is one of the hardest rule books to navigate I have ever come across, and I have played a lot of games.

So is it time? A time for a new edition. To 1. Reorganize the layout. 2. Compile the errata into one source of rules. And 3 rebalance the entirety of the game. Also last but not least. I would love the system to actually play better with the rest of the universe...ie dark heresy 2nd edition..

Anyone else feel the same way. As I do? With dark heresy 2nd edition coming out. This would be the chance for fantasy flight to make their system more universal.

Minor edits for clarity, grammar and relevance.

To start , I love the game, as does the group I have been running the game with for the last year and a half.

It's too bad, but when I invite a new player to the game and tell him all he really needs to play is the core rule book , but be sure to either print off the pages-long errata ( or at least go over it thoroughly ) when building your character , it makes me wonder whether it might be time for an update. It doesn't help when changes made many times don ' t translate well when compared to other stats that weren't changed , such as how weapon damage compares to some of the damage resistances of bad guys.

So is it time? A time for a new edition ? Perhaps to reorganize the layout, compile the errata into one source of rules and rebalance the entirety of the game ? Finally, last but not least , I would love the system to actually play better with the rest of the universe...ie dark heresy 2nd edition..

Your topic sentence is vague and unclear. The sentence structure in the body of your post is awkward and appears to be missing both words and punctuation, whilst simultaneously having a large number of short, choppy sentences. It also takes you three-quarters of your post to get to your point. Further, this thread already happened here , except the poster was able to keep it concise, on topic, and had a topic sentence which was precisely clear on what the topic of the thread would be. Cail, Kshatriya, AK-73 and a few others kicked the idea around rather a lot.

I like the idea of DW2, and it would be nice if FFG got around to it, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. It could be done as a fanproject without too much difficulty, perhaps, but unless DW2 was published as PDF only, I don't think it would be worth it- let's wait and see how DH2 goes before expecting RT2 and DW2.

Why thank you for using your time to edit my post, I hadn't got around to it. Usually I am posting from an iPad. Like I am now, I don't always have time to proof read. Also many times iPad will auto correct things and make things actually worse.

Might I ask a favor though? Since you like editing peoples posts.will you please start following me and my posts to make sure they are all clear and concise. It frees up (ohh an edit) more of my time to do other things.

Thank you again.!

LOL. Jesus, stop being so German, you're giving us a bad name.

Alex

I'm neither German nor an English major. Sometimes I just get a bug in my ear that shouts "but that's wrong!"

Re: taking the time to edit the post, no problem. I'm posting from my phone right now, and I know how much more difficult it is to keep all of the proper spelling and punctuation correct.

To answer your question, computertrucker , I'd love to see a 2nd Edition of Deathwatch , for all the reasons you state (essential errata, bad layout) and because I think there need to be some improvements to the Skill & Talent selections. For example, Tactical Marines are supposed to be able to fill any battlefield roll in a pinch, but their selection of melee-based options is too limited to really allow for that. And since Apothecaries get stuck with unfun support duties in combat, they should at least have access to some cool Lore Skills that allow them to take the spotlight in non-combat situations, functioning as a de facto 'science officer'. Stuff like that.

Not to mention lack of Demolitions training (not even available at Rank 1) nor with the Astartes Sniper Rifle nor Pilot skills.

Alex

Yep I'm ready for a second edition.

Exactly. Which means that the first missions you need to do without.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but it has as many typos as the core rule book.

A new edition would be appropriate for DW and RT. Not Only War and BC simply because they already use the updated rules.

PLEASE!!!!! Make a second edition. One of my players wont stop bitching about "teh nerfs" I'm giving him even though he is so stupidly powerful he can almost one hit a deamon prince without a shield stopping it.

I'm changing smite to this. I'm also swapping the /players/npc/enemies to the + unnatural characteristic instead of the x. Basically switching over to the Only War system with some custom powers because obviously those ones are just a little too weak for space marines.

+2dmg per psy rating and he is freaking out. With a fixed pen of 8.

I am very much ready for a 2nd edition, of nothing else just to get the errata in there. I've been reading up a bit on the other systems as well, and I like how they have streamlined some of the skills and talents (Making Tech-use be demolition as well and using +X to unnatural characteristics, for example) as well as making them have more uses.

All around, I think Deathwatch would greatly benefit from an updated rulebook. Rework/add a few things to the skills, talents and traits. Get the updated errata in there. Update the vehicle system and perhaps give some more options to some of the specializations to add some more variety.

Get on it, FFG. ;)

Market analysis accounts for more than a bunch of posts of FFG forums, right? That said, I still stick to my assertion that there will always be sufficient demand for a Space Marine RPG for as long as 40K is around. And due to the nature of the Deathwatch, it will always be the ideal setting.
