Not that impressed by wave five

By Lord Ashram, in X-Wing

I don't mind the 2 ship wave either. There's not a lot of good stuff left to release! Most of the remaining expanded universe stuff is so generic (t-wing) or stupid (coralskippers). Slow it down so JJ Abrams can provide some sweet new material.

I probably share much of your mindset, but I wonder how far JJ Abrams can veer away from what's already been established before those of us with this mindset start griping about violations of StarWarsiness.

Just as long as he doesn't use the same design team as was used for STID. I cringe every time I think about that Klingon ship.

This is the only way i see the decimator run in standard games :

Decimator

Mini swarm

Oh I dunno, I'm sure there are going to be some brutal combinations with a Decimator and a single companion ship such as a Phantom, Defender or Firespray.

Added variance that decreases the average is not, in any way, a good thing in a tactics game. Being able to deal 4 damage 6.25% of the time does not justify the increase.(And yes, that is how often you will roll 4 hits on an unmodified attack with Expose.

I still think it's best to mention what Expose actually does in its entirety rather than blithely mentioning that it's worse than a focus while briefly explaining the comparative probability for hits. It leaves the potential for confusion particularly if someone comes in to the questions thinking, "...but how can four dice not have some sort of intrinsic advantages over three dice?"
