Not that impressed by wave five

By Lord Ashram, in X-Wing

Hi all,

While I am glad to see wave five announced, I have to admit, I am not blown away.

I think both ships are a bit unattractive (especially the imperial ship... I hate the front end, that I guess is supposed to be a little tie-fighter?) and I have to say, I have little interest in big ships... I just don't find them as much fun to fly, especially with two turret ships involved. That, plus a lack of small ships, leaves me a little meh about wave five.

Anyone else a little meh about them? I'd be more interested in a y wing with a crew seat! :)

Total opposite for me. I'm actually more excited for Wave 5 than I was for Wave 4.

You're not alone. I think wave 4 set the bar a little high though.

I'm pleased. The Decimator was a total surprise (and I want one... no, I mean a REAL one), and that's always fun. Wave Four is great (esp. the Z-95), but it was kinda predictable. So is the Outrider. But sure didn't see the Imp ship!

I assume there will be two others - since this is being referred to as an actual "wave." Wonder what it'll be?

While the Decimator is basically an Imperial Falcon, I absolutely love the profile of it. Could use a sexy repaint, but it is an aggressive-looking ship that really shows off the Empire's power. I really like the Outrider, also. Dash's card ability plus barrel rolling a large base will be quite powerful in play, and I love the new dynamics of turret weapons with the Outrider Title. It will be interesting to fly, and to fly against. There is now a turret that is quite weak to Interceptors, and I am quite okay with it.

I think that you have to bear in mind that they are balancing for 2 game plays now...What will be interesting is what mystery ships will be released for Epic play wave 2...

I've never been a fan of the Outrider looks however the stats are nice. I can see that replacing many a yt1300. The Decimater looks grand and imperials are lacking at the moment for huge ships. This is about as close as that gets anyway.

My complaint however to FFG is that they are pushing out a lot of recent releases with more on the way yet they still struggle with product supply for existing models.

I agree with this. I fully think the Outrider will get a lot of play in standard. The Decimator will see some but limited play in standard but will really shine in Epic. And we still haven't seen the Imperial Huge Ships.

The Decimator is worth it for the new Imperial unique crew cards alone. A high-hull turret ship with 3 crew spots is just icing on the cake.

The yt2400 is a fantastic ship for standard play. Turrets and practically ignoring asteroids, cannon slot that can be turned to a turret however it might be a bit over priced for that option. And it can barrel roll as an action with a large ship. It's very point efficient. Personally I love the ship with a hlc without the outrider title. It's 4 atk at range 2-3 in the fire arc and 2 atk anywhere else. It's better then the falcon or firespray IMHO. The defender seems overpriced and we pay for to many crew slots when the imperials don't have 3 crew that are worth all those points in one ship. Winner rebels again.

I think the Decimator is meant to be as close to a thematic Imperial list as standard allows. A huge ship lumbering forward and attacking in all directions as a swarm of TIEs barrel directly at the enemy.

Low on funds eh!

I'm very excited

Can't wait for wave 5

I'm also very excited. Dash Rendar finally gets a model to represent the Outrider on the board, Imperial tank looks awesome, even debris clouds are something I'm excited for even if they might just be used as just new terrain shapes.

Turbo excited for both ships. Didn't see the imperial ship coming and am extremely pleased to finally get the Outrider. I loved Shadows of the Empire. Can't wait to throw the HLC on the Outrider too, fly thru asteroids, and smoke my foes!

There may be two more ships to show for Wave 5, too.

My biggest disappointment is that this is the second wave in a row where a new ship with a cannon slot is introduced without a new cannon upgrade card. Throw in rebel aces and that is 3 missed opportunities for a slot that only has 3 options, one of which is considered virtually useless by most players. Not to mention it's the only interesting upgrade slot that ships like the TIE Defender have, and the primary gimmick for the Outrider title.

I was kind of hoping for a new Imperial large ship, even though I prefer small base craft, just because it bugged me that if i wanted to beef up an Imperial list with a large ship i was stuck with either a non-combat transport shuttle or a non-Imperial Navy bounty hunter ship. I was hoping for the skipray blastboat but I think i will warm up to the VT-49 over time, especially once I see some real pictures of it. I'm pretty sure FFG's announcement images are computer generated or something because the paint always looks kind of fake and weird, the Imperial Aces reveal images especially looked really light and washed out compared to the final product, as did the wave 4 ships.

The only part that dissapointed me (at least as of now) is there was only 2 ships , having 4 and one of them being the imperial - Assault gunboat, avenger, missile boat would have had me estatic.

I'm excited for wave 5, for the ships and the upgrades but I really think they should have stuck with 4 ships in a wave. I would have been happy waiting longer and enjoying my wave 4 stuff while they took extra time to make us some more small ships. I don't play large ships much either, but I still want all those upgrades for my small ships!

That Mara Jade on a Phantom tho....

As a liker of Wave 5, I'm not too impressed with this thread title. Both ships seem like they fill significant roles: the Decimator in giving the Imps a huge and imposing turret, YT-2400 the Rebs a second, and cheaper, large base ship with significant mobility. I just want my **** TIE Advanced fixed.

Imposing turret can't be underestimated. Due to the lack of any agility, Decimators are the most ideal ship to put Expose on. 4 attack turret, anyone?

4 attack is way too- ....oh n/m :)

And with a shuttle with Fleet Officer supporting it, it can have a focus as well.

Still worse than focus.

I agree with the OP. I was disappointed, especially by the Decimator. The idea of this whole wave is growing on me a little, but it seems to take away from the calling card of the game. I'm sorry but a ship with 0 agility just doesn't lend itself to exciting dog fighting, which is supposed to be what the game is about. The only way I can get excited for this wave is to imagine playing in a slightly different way, emphasizing the increased modifications/customization (which in my normal games I don't do too much of), and probably making my own missions. But if I want a classic Star Wars dogfight, these new ships will definitely not be involved.
