Y-Wing Love

By Punning Pundit, in X-Wing

I was just thinking about how awesome Y-wings can be with a properly prepared strategy. True for everything, but the consistent control provided can be overlooked.

Two Golds with Ion and Flechette seem really awesome if you plan your sequence of attacks, especially against large ships. Ionizing and stressing a large ship on the same turn can be huge. Munitions Failsafe for never ending stress causes a gambit in which the recipient may not want to evade the attack just so the Flechette can be consumed, but you can manipulate it by not rerolling or using Focus.

I would think B-wings with FCS are the best complement, but X-wings or a Falcon can work too.

Gold - Ion Turret, Flechette, Munitions Failsafe - 26

Blue - FCS - 24

It's odd seeing more points invested in the Y-wings, but they have a better dial (white 3 banks) and 360 arc, so they can probably stay out of a few arcs.

Edit: just remembered Flechettes hull stipulation, back to the drawing board.

The flechette's stipulation is if the DEFENDER has fewer than 5 Hull, it receives a stress.

The launching platform doesn't matter :)

Y-wings are quite popular in our local meta. But then again, so is Vader, for some reason :P
I've always loved Y-wings. I started playing the game when they were pretty much impossible to find, before the reprint. Was real bummed until the guy who runs our FLGS found one in a box, buried under a bunch of A-wings.

I know, but it was my hope I could use Flechettes and Ions to both stress and ionize large ships with fair regularity, but I had forgotten about the hull rule on Flechettes.

The intention of the build was to corral big ships and let the B's work them down with FCS chain hits, alas...

Then add R3A2 to one of the Y-Wings rather than a Flechette Torpedo. He can stress the big ship. After all, if you are Ion locking a ship you won't need more than one stress on them anyway.

Even better, he can hit that big ship with his Ion at the same time he stresses it, you can use R3A2 as many times as you wish, and R3A2 has neither a minimum range nor a target lock requirement.

Fighters did/do too... Should X Wings carry bombs too? ;)

I'm thinking simple roles for simple people (like me). Besides I never really got the point of bombs in space too much. In ESB, how did the they even fall towards the asteroids? Were they launched rather than dropped? I'm sure someone will come up with a valid defense...

Well don't forget that the battles also happened on planets, I believe that is the majority of the times Bombs are used during those planetary assaults
