I was perusing the Regionals squadron lists and have noticed that there are a lot of people taking B-Wings and Fire Control System. I can see the purpose in taking Advance Sensors but can't for the life of me figure out why for the Fire Control System. Could some one please explain the advantages of the Fire Control System in this scenario?
B-wings and Fire Control System
Free actions are good. It's that simple.
I like it on an Ion Cannon build. First shot Ion, second shot Target Locked unload with main weapon.
Other than that its a free Target Lock while you start swinging the B into red moves and K-Turns to keep fire arcs up and also allowing other action options like Barrel Rolls etc.... plus its cheaper.
Edited by SonikgavAction economy ... you get a free target lock every time you attack, allowing you to target lock and focus on subsequent attacks.
Free action!
Good agianst Falcon, Firespray & Shuttle kills them faster then just TL or F
the only time it can be a waist is if you have 4 mixed ships shooting one target last to fire is the B wing often he will finish him off and there is no use for FCS. At least while your ships are in formation. But most of the time it works
I can see the use. I once got TORE UP by B-Wings with Fire Control Systems.
It's really simple.
First round take focus action, fire, aquire free TL.
Next round take focus again, this time when you fire you have a focus and that fancy TL from the previous round.
Easily the best circumstance to shoot someone with, only second to also being at range 1.
Another ship that it is really strong with: Corran Horn with Marksmanship!
- 1st Attack: Marksmanship (maybe with a previous TL from a turn before)
- 2nd attack at the end of the round: Marksmanship + a TL from your first attack and you get another one at the end of your second attack! It can hardly get any better than this!
I see! Thank you all for the explanation!
It's best used to piss me off when I realize after a game that I forgot to take my free target locks every time I attacked with my B-wing.
When I do remember, though, it's great to get the free actions.

Another E-Wing use is paired with a R7 to provide a defensive boost after shooting a target.
You cannot always shoot the same target next round. So FCS does not help you every round. Having said that, I am considering FCS with weapons engineer on a B-Wing. You gain two TLs after an attack. That should increase the odds that next round you have a TL on your target.
Edit:
If you want to set up a APT shot, FCS is great.
