Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

What about that funky Broadside Cruiser from Empire at War? The one that fired missiles and was -epic- at killing... Well, everything?

I like that game, and I think the Broadside Cruiser could work, but I think you're right that it's a bit funky. Too funky for my tastes.

Of all the ships, I think I'm the biggest fan of the Lancer. I like Johannesson 's ideas for it (3-section ship) as well as Corellian Corvette 's re-write. If I were a better kit-basher, I might build one and play with these rules. I'd also think harder about them to have a more in-depth and critical discussion about them.

As it stands, I am strongly considering building a BFF-1 bulk freighter, and if I get started on it, I'll be looking to the community to help me come up with some stats. Of course, the moment I near completion of it is when FFG announced it as the next Imperial huge.

Please, no more space dong. Not even the French Tickler variant is enough to recommend its introduction into X-Wing.

Nearly all the ships I have seen suggested are "fugly", with the exception of the Gozanti, IMO. What I want is one of Gosric's designs (available on Shapeways), either the Asp ( http://www.shapeways.com/model/2025147/asp-class-imperial-patrol-corvette.html?modelId=2025147&materialId=6 ) or Sentinel ( http://www.shapeways.com/model/2025147/asp-class-imperial-patrol-corvette.html?modelId=2025147&materialId=6 ). :D

By far, the best SW ship designs for sub-Star Destroyer classed Imperial ships. At least that's the way I see it. :)

I know you didn't just call the Vigil fugly... yea son-of-a-Bleeep!!!

Nah... Vigil is fine by me, another flying wedgie of death! :P

I still prefer Gosric's designs, however :)

Well, I saw it popping up so much, I decided to give stating it a shot, and had fun doing it.

...

Sometimes people make it too easy.

As long as it's kinda wedged shaped I'm sure we imps will welcome it.

I have a feeling the reason why there's a glaring omission of a Vigil image in the Age of Rebellion book is because they made some changes. And the new images weren't approved before they went to press. The fanom Vigil has been floating around for 3 years with plenty of images for FFG to use – which makes me think that whatever the FFG is using will be different.

I'm guessing there Vigil will be narrower to fit the tandem large ship bases better. Either that or they're going for a triple base for the Vigil. 1 in front and 2 in back. And maybe even a new movement template.

In other news, I'm thinking of kitbashing the BFF-1 Bulk Freighter :

320px-BFF1BulkFreighter-TCG.jpg

If I do make one, I really hope that FFG doesn't go an make one as well. It's a pretty iconic ship from the TIE fighter game, and it does seem like the video games are overwhelmingly the EU that FFG draws from, so.... yeah.

****, I just had the most painful flashback to the X-wing/TIE Fighter games.

I don't think I can count the number of those things that I blew up. I used to fly really slowly in between its "wings" to stay nicely protected from any pursuers. I guess I wouldn't get to do that in X-Wing, but I'd still like to see them.

Well, if they had two long, thinner bases on the sides, you could conceivably fly a ship under it and do that, or use it as a shield for your own ships.

Ha, ha... cool.

:D

I like me some Sir Goss, aka: The Earl of Funk ... I just despise Shapeways.

I think you will win that bet.

About the Broadside Cruiser. Its scale is 100% made up, since EaW's scale ratio is stupid. Look at the bridge's size.

That thing is no larger than 150m.

Imperial Vigil Corvette might be a little too large, At 250 meters long the Vigil would hit the table at about 21.5 inches (compared ratio based on length of CR-90). This is not to say that FFG wouldn't reduce the size of the Vigil by an even greater ratio, but I find it hard to believe that the Vigil will make it in game. Though, I do believe that a iconic, triangle shaped Imperial capital is a must.

Imperial Gozanti Cruiser seems like a good possibility

Well here's the thing about that Imperial Gozanti. Not only does it carry fighters, but people both young and old who've watched, "Rebels" will be able to identify it immediately as Imperial.

And that's the key here. Identification. It must be a familiar ship. The most abstract ship they've put out yet is the HWK-290, which has only appeared in Dark Forces, its wonderful sequel, and appeared again, super off scale and in design, in Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. Hardly anyone from the last decade would know about it, but most stuff they've released is quite identifiable.

If they do a Vigil I don't think FFG would stick with the 255m size. The ship was created by a fan, who got it into a star wars essential guide, it's stats were never printed, and the source of the 255m length is the twitter account of the book's author. It's essentially a piece of fan concept art that happens to be owned by lucasfilms, so they, and FFG, can do what they please with it. Also, look at the size of the turrets and radar dish on it, if it was 255m long they would be insanely huge, even by Imperial standards. If you consider them to be a similar kind of guns and dish as the CR90, then the Vigil would also be around the same size.

Isnt the Gozanti just a bit bigger than the falcon? If not, then surly it must be smaller than the transport.

I don't disagree wth your point, but here's the thing about the gozanti. According to wookieepedia numbers, A 1/270 scale miniature of the gozanti is only 1" longer than the falcon. If the decimator is correct scale, the gozanti is only a half inch longer than it, and probably quite a bit thinner.

Wikipedia's been wrong about size before, sometimes drastically. I worked it out a couple of months ago and can't find it, but looking at this image…

GozantiCruiser.png

…and remembering that a TIE Fighter is 6.5m long, it's clear that 41m is an underestimate.

That said, it does LOOK like it should be a much larger ship, and I would love for them to make it transport or corvette size.

Don't you dare use Wookiepedia as a real reference.

Trust me, they can't figure out their exhaust port from a hole in the ground.

See, see see... This guy, he's got it right. He's relying on source material we can see . Not read, not take from text and not see anything for real, he's using stuff we can actually see . We can see how big the Gozanti REALLY is.

And no ship that's 41m should ever be called a, "Cruiser" anyway.

Being a massive Star Wars fan I just want to see every starship possible.

I am playing Star Wars as a table top RPG game, however, for our space battles we are going to be using the X-Wing Minitures game and rules. So I pretty much want to see all ships made availible, eventually.

But the ones i would want to see very soon, Tartan Class Patrol vessel, Action VI transport, Nebulon-B Firgate, Venator, Victory and Imperial Class Star Destroyers.

No one can deny that we all want to see them in there at some stage.

But i do also realize about the size of the model and what it would be like. Just Massive

I'd like if they did a capital ships miniatures game, but one-up Attack Wing on how well they pull if off.

Which isn't hard. But it'd be neato to have formations of capital ships broadsiding other ones awesomely.

How about something like this:

Lancer_Frigate_zps2b97a366.png

I'm thinking that the Fore section has a normal front fire arc (possibly wider, like 180°) while the Mid and Aft sections have side fire arcs (like the CR90).

I'm also thinking that each section can have it's own target lock. The idea is that multiple target locks, and the option to do both Coordinate and Target Lock (with energy) fits the superior tracking mentioned below.

"The Lancer has twenty Corellian AG-2G quad laser cannons specifically calibrated for use against high-speed , maneuverable starfighters. The weapons have superior tracking and targeting capabilities and are mounted on elevated towers to provide an increased field of fire; each bank of lasers is fed by a single power generator. Backup gunners must balance power demands to keep the Lancer’s weapons operating at full capacity."

Alright, I spent way to much time on this, but I think it was worth it. Feedback?

Please stop posting ***** pictures on the forums. We're trying to keep it clean, and little kids probably come here maybe.

I thought only old farts like starwars, kids have only seen the special edition or Sith help them the blue Ray version.

Me I remember Han shooting first.

Well, if you scroll down to the wall of text, you will find a lack of phallic shaped objects that you so desire.

What did you think of the remake of the stats though? was I way off?
