Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I need an Imperial epic ship with an array of turrets ... because of TURRETS.

The Raider would have been so cool with turrets instead of this trapdoors as weapons.

The trapdoor guns probably are turrets; on a ship that size making them fixed-forward would just be dumb...

(looks at Raider's base)

Oh.

Stupid Empire......

Z106!...besten radio funk around! wunderbar!!!

Thinking about carriers more has me on a bit of a brain storm. How about when you use the coordinate action, you may select an additional ship.

Carrier actions should include repairs and ordnance reloads.

Anyone want to complain about that being unrealistic, let's talk z-axis and the football field-sized battle area.

Ultimately, abilities in the game should represent things that can happen during an engagement and give players a variety of compelling options to affect the outcome. It's not a millisecond by millisecond simulator.

Carrier actions should include repairs and ordnance reloads.

That actually sounds pretty good.

Not just limited to carriers though.

After all, in TIE Fighter, you could call on a Combat Utility Vehicle to hyperspace in and reload your warheads.

OMG yes, Yes, YES!!!.....Combat Utility Vehicle!!!

If we're going to demand a repair mechanic, no pun intended though I love it, knowing it would be for a ship not capable of doing it, with a military doctrine that doesn't per se support field repair mid combat, how would you do it? Now reloading I could see however vaguely

But ties don't carry missiles and ships like the defender could not dock with a Goz, a mechanic that only benefits tie advanced is lame.

True right? That's part of my problem. There's no flight deck or hangar deck on this ship. :(

After rebels, the Arquitens class would be rather a nice addition.

Bit bigger than a corvette, by maybe 10-25 metres, shaped like a throwing knife, imperial grey.

Erm didn't this thread die 6 months ago?

What is dead may never die. But rises again, harder and stronger...

Eh, reminds me of an older - better quote, which I am sure GRRM took inspiration from with the drowned god - especially given the greyjoys banner.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and in strange eons even death may die...

The Empire will go on...

.... aaaand that explains the mon calimari/quarren.

I'm sure if they wanted to carry Defenders around, they'd just modify the mounts on the Gozanti for them.

TIE pilots look like they have to EVA to get on board anyway, the TIE Fighter launch screen esque claw would do just as well for any variant of TIE.

FFG could make up a support vehicle modification that installed repair droid like things to the under side of the fuselage. Bunch of arms like on medical or probe droids hanging off the bottom. You might be able to do your repairs then like how the Tantive can with droids (which I also think is a little nuts).I still don't like the feel of that though.

I'd say that repairs/carrier operations are best handled out of scope of the main game - but integrated into the metacampaign of a several mission run. This can be either narrative set missions, randomly generated missions or some kind of campaign map (or a combination of) just like boarding operations...

Well now hold the kriff on here Hobo, why would the TIE Defender have to dock with the Gozanti anyway..? It has a Hyperdrive. No, the ones that have the two wings by the side need the Gozanti, as they tend to lack Hyperdrives. Even the TIE Advanced V1 utterly lacks one, from what we saw.

So why is that even a concern?

Because even though it has a hyperdrive, it doesn't have living quarters. Eventually, that Defender pilot is going to want to get out of his ship.

Because he's talking about a re-arming mechanism and I'm pointing out the limitations given the goz docking ports.

My talking about armaments kinda gave that away.

I thought the Gozanti had them latched on via tubes connected to the top hatch, and all they'd have to do is lower themselves into the chair.

That is my assumption as well.

Yes, but for any TIE without the standard dockpit, such as the defender, bomber etc that just wouldn't work, so EVA would be required, and a clamp would work better.

Every TIE has to have a hatch SOMEWHERE. It just means they'd have to dock from a different angle. And since they're in space, it doesn't really matter if the ship is upside down, sideways, topwise, diagonal corners, whatever.

But yes, a clamp would be better. And for a ship that carries Phantoms or Oppressors or Defenders, they probably modify the Gozanti itself to carry those ships.
