Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

The bomber isn't broken ordinance is, I don't see the fix for torpedoes and missiles coming in an imperial huge it's an issue that effects all three factions.

I generally agree with that. However, in defense of Concussion Missiles and Proton Torpedoes, I wonder if the standard mathwing of them takes the path dependence aspect of them into account. If you're able to use this heavy-hitting ordnance in the alpha strike (yes, that's an 'if'), and you can take out a ship or two quickly, then you reap the benefits of having quickly eliminated those ships for the rest of the game.

A problem that does sit with the bombers is that they're relatively low PS. Ordnance that requires the TL is really best used with a Focus, Jonus, or saved for the next pass if you can get one. So, because it's hard to get the TL and the focus token if you're moving first, TL-required ordnance really isn't as valuable on the low PS ships. That may be why they marked Rhymer up so far.

...but... that's rather off topic. (Just doing my part to keep the thread going - two more pages to go.)

And as someone else pointed out earlier the decimator is almost as big as the goz I've said all along its too small to be a huge and should be a large base ship if it gets released at all.

As others have pointed out, this thread has been presuming the Gozanti-class Cruiser, not the smaller civilian Gozanti. Still, even the Gozanti-class is quite a bit smaller than the GR-75. Still, even if it is small, and who knows what size it would be using FFG's sliding scale, I think it would be a worthwhile inclusion.

But I'd like to reanimate the possibility of the BFF-1 bulk freighter . As a non-combatant ship, it would mirror the GR-75 and also be fairly iconic to fans of the old video games of the 90s. What would be really awesome is if the cargo containers could detach and float around as obstacles. :D

AND, if they don't come out with the BFF-1, I might reanimate my notion of scratchbuilding one, even if my skills in that regards are presumed to be modest (as in, I've never done such a thing).

Just thought id share this image that was just sent.Painted by the talented Alkurian arts. Of my Asp Patrol Corvette in WSF and the unpainted one with my Starwing of which im rather proud also painted by the same artist. It would look crisper in a detail material but it didnt come out badly at all for 10.25 inches of Imperial threat

Gozanti looks like an alligator or a shark

Yeah love that blunt prow/mouth thing with the Gozanti and it looks awesome with squints tucked in underneath.

Hmm love the look of Gosric's Starwing, might have to get one of those sooner or later

Just want to say.... I would probably by at least 3 Gozantis if FFG did an official one for the game

@gosric. That thing looks great.

Would probably serve exceptionally well as a stand on for a raider too, once it comes out.

Where does this special love for the Gozanti come from?

For me, at least, by the time rebels premiered, I had already been won over and liked the ship, and then rebels shows them in, like every episode, so it was super adrenaline rush "woohoo!!! More of the thing I like!! Get super excited about it!!!"

Also worth noting that I am picking up at least 2 of all the expansions. I just got a second cr-90, so saying I would buy 3 Gozantis is just 1 more than I would have picked up eventually even if I didn't particularly like the ship.

Aha, you're one of those guys. :D

Honestly, I didn't like the design at first, but it grew on me. Now I think a big part of it is the position it fills in the pantheon of SW space ships. It's small enough that you can imagine it being privately owned (ie, you can imagine owning one yourself), but still big enough to be thought of as a big ship. (Yeah, bigger is better, aarr!!) Within the universe it occupies a similar roll to the falcon (clone wars showed it being used extensively by fringes) but isn't overdone the way the falcon is. (The falcon is and always will be the coolest spaceship ever, but it is soooooo over saturated in the geek psyche).

I wonder if they (ie. Disney) is going to do something to clarify how the Gozanti and the Gozanti-class relate to one another They're clearly different ships based off a similar design. The Wookieepedia size of the former seems a bit too small compared to what we've seen of it.

Does anyone know if FFG's Star Wars RPGs have any clarifications on this? I'm old school, and only have the old WEG material, and have very little incentive to delve into the new stuff.

I would be surprised (and honestly, a but annoyed) if they didn't just assume it's the same ship and that there have been scale inconsistencies.

It is impossible to get accurate scales in a video production, and in animation they don't even try. The best thing is for whoever controls the canon to declare an "official" size that is reasonably close to at least some depictions and then for future artists to do there best to be true to that. That is much less of a strain on suspension of disbelief than trying to say that there are 2 (or more) vehicles out there that look exactly the same but differ in size by 100%. Far more palatable to simply say "some depictions of this ship weren't quite accurate, it is supposed to be X meters long".

Hm, the thing is that these two really are very different from one another. Just look at the shape of the wings.

While I agree that scale is hard to deal with in traditional animation (provided the artist cares), I would think that in 3D CGI animation it would actually be quite a lot easier to do.

So, my preferred solution is two different models by the same manufacturer. For consistency's sake, they should both be CEC products.

The wing expansions make a lot more sense as just an addition for the military model, like adding a spoiler to a car, than as an indication of an entirely different design that is almost twice as big, would therefore need an entirely different internal arrangement, but bizarrely still looks exactly the same otherwise and even still has windows in the exact same position and still proportioned the same on the outside.

So here we are on Friday night... at page 99?

We have all fussed and argued and laughed and ponder ponder pondered.

:P

Was fun too...

^_^

Now the first of what I believe are many answers to the Imperial Huge question has been given, and just in time for Christmas.

:)

swx30-box-left.png

Good answer too!

Now what needs to be asked... will we see a SCUM Huge, or a second Imp Huge?

More Pondering...

To everyone who got what this entire topic was about, thanks for being cool and such.

^_^

Now all we need to do is keep flying casual... until FFG gets the next announcement up.

:D

I am wondering how many of us are going to buy MEL from HEL models, that we have enjoyed popping up all along the way?

:)

So the large Goz at 63m scaled down to 1:270 will put it at just over 9 inches on the table, which is roughly the size of the GR-75 Transport. FFG has stated in the preview for the Raider, that 150m is their sweet spot for epic. does not really nix the argument for one or the other; However, because of the extensive use of the smaller ship in the Clone wars, by fringers and scum, the argument can be turned by saying that the smaller ship would me more likely to use as one of the S&V large ships.

Let's also look at the possibility that FFG may have another trick up their sleeve and offer another custom ship of their own design or a star base of some kind... or turrets .

... or can you wait to see what FFG is going to do?

Really pushing for turrets here.

They ZONGIES'ed us all with that stunt... for sure for sure.
