Welp, guess I found the pinup art for my CR-90!
Have to twilek-ize her though I guess.
Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.
Oh, Vigil people.... Math is not always your strong suit, is it?
What do you mean?
The Vigil is 255 meter, the Corvette is 150. If they maintain the Corvette's scale, the Vigil would be almost twice as big.
They already said they are using a sliding scale. There were pictures on this forum with the Vigil at 1:600. Slightly longer, quite wide, but it looked amazing!. It would also fit in that CR90 box, if you tucked all the extra components in some corner. (ok, barely, but you get my point, it's at the limit of what's doable).
I never supported the idea of having a ship twice as long as a CR90.
No, my point was if the Lancer at 250m was too big - FFG's statement - then the 255m Vigil is certainly out of bounds, especially as it's probably 3x as wide as the Lancer. The math part being 250<255.

He is being a little smarty.
Indeed. I'm sorry if it came across as offensive. I was just trying to give you a ribbing, not trying to be nasty.
Let's be careful here people. Don't want this thread getting locked.
Not before another 22 posts at least.

They said they would consider ships up to 250m. They would never say 255, it would be a dead give-away, plus it's also possible that developers would not remember exactly 255m, just like somebody else wouldn't remember if an ISD would be 1603m or 1604m. It's +- 2%. Call it wishful thinking if you will, but I'm an engineer, +- 2% is acceptable error in this case!
I also thought the comment was extra snarky and uncalled for, that's why I asked for an explanation. I actually already explained in a different thread why I don't care that 250m < 255m in this case.
At this point I'm slightly disappointed that they designed a smaller ship than what the Rebels have. It somehow feels like a wasted opportunity, even if it fits a certain anti-fighter role etc. I still hope this is not the case, and that we're still in for a surprise. I like the Raider, definitely getting one... but my heart belongs to the Vigil
.

Just remember we're trying to keep it civil. You go insulting people and being nasty, and all of a sudden, they lock our super long thread full of nice guys who like big ships.
Then we have to start again from post 1, page 1, and that'll suck major Lancer.
We have five pages to go don't get it locked, no being nasty and breakfast talk is banned until page 101.
Are there any pics of the Raider's engine section? I didn't see a turntable like the ones they posted of other ships.

Not yet. Presumable there will be another preview article that doesn't discuss the TIE Advanced but focuses more exclusively on the raider itself and we will probably get the 360 view then.
I endorse this thread /thumbs up ... just adding to the numbers!
(Seriously, did anyone else expect that once this thread hit 100 pages FFG would announce the Imperial epic?)

I was hoping they would show the preview for the holidays, and if not then it would be at GenCon.
It is a great relieve to understand how FFG are going to move forward. Now I can build some ships that I have had the parts for in my game parlor for a year.

I was hoping for a holiday gift they would actually make the initial announcement in this thread! LOL
A little something for Boss' believers... coming early in 2015!
I hope it has a hanger.
I'd be happy with the ability for TIE's to roost under it, so they disembark after hypering in. That way Raider with TIE Swarm attack!
"Joe Bossk Red Seven"?
You so crazy...

That's not how I read the quote. Let me pull up the quote from the announcement that I'm referring to, and you can see if it's the same quote you're thinking of:
As we looked at ships that were larger than the VT-49 Decimator , the next possibility was the Lancer -class frigate at 250m; however, that was larger than we wanted for the scope of the game.
If 250m is larger than they wanted, then that suggests that 255m is certainly not what they would consider.
I also thought the comment was extra snarky and uncalled for, that's why I asked for an explanation. I actually already explained in a different thread why I don't care that 250m < 255m in this case.
You're right, it did sound snarky, and I should not have worded it that way.
I was having a moment of eye-rolling, given the way that I read the quote as meaning that 250m is absolutely too large. I would also suggest that my poke at mathematics is at most on par with some of the slurs coming from the Vigil People towards those of us who preferred the Lancer. So, given that, I trusted that you all would have had thicker skins. Of course, it's frequently the case that people can't dish up what they dish out.
Regarding your other thread, okay, but I can't reasonably be expected to have taken that into account during the argument in this thread.

I agree with you up until the last part. I think a huger ship would have been awesome, but I think at this point any other Imperial Huge ship we get is going to be smaller, but I'll join you in hoping for something larger, even if it's not the Vigil.
And, I'll confess that my antipathy for the Vigil has grown out of what I perceive as some of the behavior of the Vigil People as much as the Vigil's own attributes.
Anyway... let's keep it going to see if the forum breaks at 100 pages.
(Not that I expect or want that.)
Dear Bossk Claus,
All I want for Christmas this year is a new boat for Fantasy Flight Games. The little pedal boat is clearly not meant for sea travel and I'd really like an Imperial Raider before Christmas 2015.
P.S. Please stop leaving dead Bothans in our Christmas stockings. For the last time, the Palpatines live three doors down.
P.P.S. I was going to ask for world peace, but I'm prioritizing the boat.
Merry Christmas,
EastCoast
I think we failed. We should have reached 100 pages at the same time as the anouncement. This is clearly a mistake from our side.
Won't from lack of try'n...
...
I wasn't offended, just a bit suprised for an uncalled-for comment.
I was also quoting their interview on the S&V podcast (from a month ago?). I remember them teasing that it's not to hard to guess which one they chose, since there isn't a large pool of ships in that <250m range.
But the quote from the announcement is pretty clear, I must have skipped the "too large" part (cue Lancer joke). So a bigger ship is probably not happening, sigh.
You know guys, I'm impressed with this thread. One of the biggest and longest-living on the board. However now that we finally have the epic Imp ship revealed I find it even more impressive that it still lives! The force is strong with this one.

Everyone is trying desperately to get it to 100 pages. Once that happens it will probably die off unless JB Red 7 keeps bumping it. (which, to be fair, he probably will).

Okay, that explains what seemed to me to be your against-the-facts Vigil antism, which is what annoyed me and drove me to rib you.

Yeah, probably not. I think FFG is not the sort of company that would explicitly mislead in order to surprise us. BUT! That's what the 3D designers are for. Basically, they now can say: "you're not going to get it from FFG, so come get it from me."
The Nebulon-B (at 300m) also fits that category, and the model by melminiatures is really awesome (1:607 here ). Wasn't there also a model design at the same scale as the CR-90?
So, we can now move this thread further by talking about what sort of 3d printing miniatures would be awesome to add to the game, with homebrew rules.
