Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

A Space station would also open up the design space for new huge actions such as

Field Repair

Energy. Spend 1 energy, choose a friendly ship at range 1. That ship discards 1 damage card. That ship skips its next activation phase.

Or a modification that allows friendly ships to recharge shields?

I was wondering about them mines too...

Hmm those could very well be mine tokens, they were no joke in tie fighter could make things interesting.

You know, instead of a Gozanti, which is basically to counterpart the GR-75 I'd much rather see an XQ platform.

They were introduced in X-Wing and TIE Fighter at a scale that could be reasonably tweaked to fit before X-Wing Alliance tripled their size.

Interesting that you say that, it would be a direct competitor with a certain Star base from another space game(I don't want to say it) adding a fixed gun platform.

I was looking at the promo image:

What am I looking at here, Attack/Agility/Hull... Mines?

In the X-wing video games, most mines were static turrets. These could be like those.

Unfortunately, seeing them all beside one another like this makes me feel like the Raider is a tad off. It does now look like a shrunken down version of a larger ship. The CR90 just looks so much more boss due to its robustness. If the Raider were 2x larger than it would seem appropriate but I know that isn't feasible from a tabletop point of view. Meh.

Ugh, that's just... underwhelming.

The '90's got ENGINES that are half the size of that wedge-shaped disappointment, which is to say nothing of the comparative size of their armament. Making a shrunken triangle, just to have a triangle, was a mistake I say. This will be a VERY expensive fix for the Advanced... Pretty enough, on it's own, but set down alongside either of the rebel ships... It just looks so silly and impotent.

And seriously, how does that thing get broadside firing arcs through those big, dopey, interceptor wings???

I was thinking:

This is going to take a lot of red paint!

This is going to take a lot of red paint!

Not just red either... you need some orange and umber and black and...

At first I was disappointed about the way the ship looked, because it was underwhelming when compared to the CR-90. Then I realized that these ships play very different roles, and that the Raider isn't SUPPOSED to be huge and menacing, but be small and deadly as it is primarily an anti-starfighter design.

And it's not from Rebels, which is the best thing about the ship :D

Somebody blast 'em will yea?!

The VIGIL was the best shot. .. I have to agree, this Raider is kinda cool... but not VIGIL COOL.

Playing in an X-Wing tournament yesterday, seeing all the Decimators floating around gave me a lovely mental image.

That of a Raider flying in formation with two Decmiators, one on either side. The ultimate Imperial "come at me, bro."

That's exactly what the image is missing... I seriously think that FFG has a bigger ship for the Empire. It makes perfect sense to have a bigger ship. Since the Lancer was scratched, I'm still betting on the Vigil.

DAT... the new Raider is fine, but not super-dupper-cool... I'll admit it.

In the game with other ships it is going to be great however, so I like it plenty. Also we know what to expect in the future so I can do what I want to do with custom builds and I will know that FFG ain't going to come out with my special ships.

I am very happy about finally knowing!

Sorry, I seem to have spilled some GI-Joe in here.

Im just glad it has forward firing secondaries. I hate having to broadside with the CR90. Makes it so I can't crush things.

I think that the location of the rear armaments are actually placed higher than the winglets, wont know for sure till they release a 360 shot.

Somebody blast 'em will yea?!

I am going to disagree believe it or not.

:o

The FFG gang has made it clear with the Raider and with what they have said in recent videos and in the Raider article; this is it.

If a new Huge Ship is in the 150'ish meter range, in other words if it can be fit into the Tantive-Raider BIG box... it might get made .

FFG are not going to go bigger, unless everything they have stated and written out is a lie to all of us.

I think the FFG crew are being on the up and up and these are their BIG Epic Huge Ships.

I think we still might see a Nebulan B Frigate as a three part model, if they can stack it into the currant BIG box... but I am not willing to go beyond that. I am not going to hold my breath waiting for a NebBie either.

We are still getting the Gonzies and Hounds Tooth... so I can live with it.

What they said is that they're looking at <250m range. With margin for error ( :) ) this still allowed the Vigil. The point still stands now.

What FFG got really well in Armada (at least from the previews) is that they made Imperial ships big, bulky and strong. The Raider looks to be much more nimble, firing arcs are huge, size is smaller than the CR90.

If they designed the Raider from the get-go to be the single Imperial starship, I believe that would have made it even slightly bigger than the CR90, for fluff reasons. Sure, you can't have a ship 3 times the size like in armada, but using a sliding scale you can put a larger ship. In any case, just like you said, give it presence on the board, a bit more than the CR90. Otherwise, it would be the reverse of the opening scene in the OT.

I like the Raider, it looks cool. But I'm hoping this isn't all.

I just want to know whether the Raider will be able to fulfil its intended purpose. The Corvette is many things, but an anti-fighter platform it is not. If the Raider is going to suffer from the same problem of not being able to fire its guns... well, I don't expect to field it a lot.

Yeah I think so Bro... I would not be surprised in fact if we actually get an Imp AND Scum Gonzie.

Like I said months ago in another long tread about our love and disappointment for the HUGE Ships. They need double the energy they have. In EPIC these HUGE Ships are the stars of the game and they need to be kicking some ass.
