Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

And that's why the Vigil won't happen.

EDIT: I mean really. Do you really want to pay nearly two hundred dollars for a brand new imperial ship that would take up half the board in epic play, and thus probably couldn't even move?

Do you really want the Vigil?

Just scale it right down to CR90 size. Beats the Lancer Compensator- class Frigate. If they're going Lancer I hope it gets a graphical overhaul.

Do you really want the Vigil?

That sounds like rebel talk to me...

Im putting this one forward for scum huge:

Yeah. SWToR made its player ships WAY too massive.

Just look at this sh*t.

Took this pic a while back of my character standing next to the door of his BT-7 Thunderclap.

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS DOOR

rendili-hyperworks-bt-7-thunderclap.jpg

WHY IS IT SO POINTLESSLY MASSIVE!?

Because it's meant for cargo bricks to be lugged through it? That ship (a predecessor to Anakin's Twilight? ) looks like a freighter.

And yes, to whomever asked earlier. I really want the Vigil. Also the Gozanti and the Customs Corvette.

They can send the Space Dong series to Gitmo where it'll see some use.

hwk-290 is also a "freighter" yet its not like some huge clown shoes, the ships scale in that game isn't consistent. The falcons wasn't either in the movies. I bet if old republic was a fps the ships scale would be much smaller.

Talking about functionality...

Keep Yamato 2199/Harlock out of it... that is it's own super cool badass world . The Japanese Star Wars.

I agree with everything you say and that is why I am hoping for the story assault carrier thing unless they changed the general angle of the wedge to make it thinner. As the issue is the width not the length

I do think the imperial epic needs to be a lot bigger than the Rebel and Scum one either way it's just the way it should be

Yeah that is pretty badass. The Vigil is fine if it is that size. I think any ship in the 20 inch'ish range works. The NebBie say, is awesomeness and it is in that same ballpark. More than 25 inches is to big prolly.

:)

I have a 60x90 inch table, so it works for me...

:D

Joe Boss

Will it sell if it's $200-$300 though?

that's GW money

No it would not do well, because only a few hundred guys like me and some of us here would buy it.

I only pressed the button on X Wing because of epic so making it so expensive no one else plays it would suck personally.

I hope it's well priced and also kind of hoping for a scum ship but I agree it does look like an awesome ship

Well if it can be done for $150 thaey would sell. I mean most people will buy from MM or CS and get that nice discount price. MM took six months to sell off about 600 Tantives, so people will buy these Huge ships.

:)

The Transports sold out like fire-water.

Maybe they go to something different that is still EPIC. Like a Star destroyer mat with turbolaser turrets and a bridge, or a static space station. That would give the imperials something epic and at the same time incorporate something new to the game.

Or something different, maybe a pack of 7 TIE droids (for example) that work as a hive mind and bring something interesting to the swarm concept.

You know, something that is not just a ship for the empire.

Sign me up for them Turbo Lasers...

:)

I think they are doing that very thing, which is why the GF9 terrain stuff has never been released.

The only thing I fear is that FFG will come out with their own. I bought the Hasbro Blockade Runner and the Revel Hoth Base for the GR75. Then FFG came out with both. I'm VERY glad they did I love the models/miniatures, the detail, rules, bases, etc... But spending $35 x however many Turbo Lasers you need just for FFG to come out with way cooler ones. I'm holding off. There are some excelent paper models of turrents.

I hear you and I really can't disagree. But if they came out with a highly detailed something like an ISD then I'd probably get it just to have it even if it was over $100.

You know K-Dogg it is kinda YARGH!

FFG makes this stuff better than it has ever been made in this scale. I got a Tantive on eBay for $65 delivered MIB, and it was awesome. Then FFG made their MASTERPIECE version... now I hate my Tantive from krappie kenner.

Good thing I can make it into other stuff.

-_-

Then I can have 'em both and love love love...

Agreed but $100 and $200 is a big difference and its several times larger than the tantive which cost me £59 or $110ish

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Storm Carrier is the Imperial Huge. More than anything else, I think of the Empire as toting Swarms of Ties into battle. If there's a 150-250 meter carrier with a general dagger shape, well... That satisfies a lot of what a lot of people want.

Right but both at a discount, which kinda says they need to modify their price-point, maybe?

Will I love the gi-normous one in the mockup, I don't think it'll be quite that big if they do make one. I mean, the box would be freaking enormous. Maybe if they sold it disassembled?

It would be neat if the defining characteristic of the Imperial line was that they had some kind of carrier feature common to them.

Exactly, but the good new is that I wasn't the only one that bought the Blockade Runner. I feel better now

With the sliding scale formula the sizes and scales for each ship would be:

Mobquet transport (1/415) 27,25m

Consular cruiser (1/417) 27,59m

Corellian Gunship (1/422) 28,44m

Bulk freighter (1/423) 28,59m

Action VI transport (1/427) 29,27m

Suprosa (1/450) 32,68m

Xiytiar Transport (1/468) 35,20m

Interceptor Frigate (1/479) 36,55m

Imperial Customs corvette (1/484) 37,19m

Maraduer Corvette (1/500) 39,04m

Lancer Frigate (1/556) 44,94m

Vigil Corvette (1/561) 45,42m

Nebulon B Frigate (1/608) 49,35m

Carrak Cruiser (1/660) 53,07m

I know there would be no reason for FFG to use this formula, maybe they do it randomly, but it gives perspective of the sizes.

You're the last person on here I would expect to make this mistake:

m =meters, I'm sure you mean cm =centimeters.

DP20 Corellian Gunship... (1/422) 284.36 mm

Vigil Corvette...................... (1/561) 454.45 mm
I can't say I like this sliding scale, what with using one version
since you could use scales where everything is the same game size.
CR90.......150m.....(1/450).....333.3mm
Vigil..........255m.....(1/765).....333.3mm

I've been musing on a release day game event structure for the Imp huge when it does finally come. I was thinking at our game store we can put five 3'x3' mats together end to end to make one giant 25'x3' play area. 10 players, five to each side choosing to play Imps or Rebs or rolling off to pick between if the numbers need tweaking, so 5 rebels, 5 imperials. Players are assigned a board edge and one of that sides five, three foot sections as their deployment zone, alternating so that allied players are deployed diagonal to eachother. So one side has reb-imp-reb-imp-reb and the other side has imp-reb-imp-reb-imp if you follow that. Start it at like noon on a saturday and play till like ten? Or close at midnight if we want. I just want to come up with a casual scoring system that focuses on the Huge ships. And settle on a point value. I'm thinking 300 is the obvious choice but 200-250 would make it more about the huge guys and be better suited for multiplayer. Of course I still want fighters in there but with so many players I'd probably have to come up with a fair way to control uniques, like each team drafting the uniques they want to play amongst themselves. The concept for this grand melee would be that two fleets tried to rendezvous at the same coordinates and thus clashed after dropping out of hyperspace practically on top of one another. Neither side having the larger capital ship support they are thrown into a frigate class fleet on fleet action. Just sounds freaking awesome to me. I was really hoping for Vigils for this too...darn. Could run it again at Origins too!

Let's not put the repulser lift sled in front of the bantha.

Just scale it right down to CR90 size. Beats the Lancer Compensator- class Frigate. If they're going Lancer I hope it gets a graphical overhaul.

stop_penis_erect_archer.gif

How Ironic that the Vigil people are accusing those of us who are advocating for the Lancer of having compensation issues. By all the rhetoric, it's them who have the issues on the matter, given how they can't stop talking about it.

FFG says they listen to the community and the Gonzanti and Vigil seem to be the popular choices.

I don't have anything against the lancer its a proud virile ship that always thrusts itself into the faces of the enemies of the empire!

A real man's ship!

mjr14w.jpg

We salute you Lancer! May you sow the seeds of the empire where ever you fly!

Seriously though I just feel the lancer while still just as big as the Vigil would be an underwhelming choice.

Whats so epic about a ship that lacks turbo lasers? Turbo lasers are the empires bread and butter!

BREAD AND BUTTER!

It sure looks like one doesn't it? But no! NO, IT'S NOT. : ' (

It's a fast combat ship! One of the best the Republic could offer! It's SUPER STUPID.

And that's why the Vigil won't happen.

I think they should be smaller, honestly. Three Gonzies taking on a CR-90, with escorts on both sides?

F*ck yeah! And it's also in-line with previously established imperial-play mindsets for the smaller ships. Makes sense, from a gameplay perspective.
