Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Man that just looks cool, that's all its gotta do.

It is cool, and they could always scale it down. So many people talk about ISDs and so many people have given up on reminding them ISDs are not practical. At any given time Lackwit feels insecure and he to attack people to make himself feel better.

I idea here is to keep each other company and be informative and funny... part of that is to suggest researched ships that might actually fit into the game in both form and function.

Gabe and others have not been great at that last part... they are in their own fanboy-nerd-world.

It is fun, but not functional... at all.

You are conveniently forgetting a lot of posts, like the Gozanti cards?

Anyone else attempt that level of Functionality?

Gabe. That vehicle is from 3,500 BBY.

3,500 B.B.Y.

If that's not enough, it's as large as if not larger than a Star Destroyer. Yes I know, Wook says 800m. Trust me. It's not 800m. I've played SWTOR.

Come on, Gabe.

Come on, Gabe.

It looks like Space Station Lasers is scheduled to be released this month in the US.

You won't get your Scum. And certainly not your Imperial Huge Ship. But you can get non-FFG lasers.

Pew, pew. Pew, pew, pew.

I had those in hand at my gamestore, but decided not to buy them. :P.

Talking about functionality...

OH MAH GAWD

YES

I like the idea of the Gozanti a lot. My question is about its size, since Wookipedia has it at under 50m, while the GR-75 is about 90. Do you think they would scale it up? Honestly, I feel like it looks bigger than the given size.

You can count on it being in the game.

EXPLAIN.

I had no idea that basic marketing involving the most recent and nigh flagship imperial vessel in the most recent TV series needed explanation.

It don't...

I don't know what REAL **** you are talking about. But it seems to me that you've gone back

to being one of the nasty trolls again, though you once told me you were trying to let things

go and trying to lighten up: So to that falling off the wagon I say drop dead.

Relax dudes plastic space ships game pew pew.

On another note has anyone noticed that the Vigil's stats in age of rebellion list three double laser cannons when it obviously has five?! I'm spitting up my chicken nuggets ffg!

I actually had done an inspection of weapon emplacements and what stood out

to me first was the lack of weapons on the underside compared to the top,

but the fact that it's nicely armed was second. Nice illustration.

I'm much more inclined to make some cards to play test it,

but won't be posting those so Joe-Bob-Blue doesn't get his claws on them.

Suppose they use the tractor beams and fighters to protect the under side. Its mostly a scout/escort anyway so if there's ever any real danger it can either run away or co-ordinate with a larger ship its escorting.

Not having the same armaments on the underside has always struck me as really f*cking stupid. It's space. You NEED equal top/bottom guns.

Dunno about that but since star war's idea of space combat pretty much comes from ww2 air/naval combat most of their guns face one direction and thats it.

It does have the usual star destroyer all guns point forwards thing going on.

This is the Vigil in 270 scale, same as the Decimators.

I know if produced it will likely be done near 450 scale.

I'm just too lazy to do the pixel math at the moment.

... so after triple checking I get the same ratio either way...so one sec...

Yeah man its big i'm doing mine at 1:500 scale making it 51cm long 38cm wide and 18cm high counting the dish and antenna at the front.

With the sliding scale formula the sizes and scales for each ship would be:

Mobquet transport (1/415) 27,25m
Consular cruiser (1/417) 27,59m
Corellian Gunship (1/422) 28,44m
Bulk freighter (1/423) 28,59m
Action VI transport (1/427) 29,27m
Suprosa (1/450) 32,68m
Xiytiar Transport (1/468) 35,20m
Interceptor Frigate (1/479) 36,55m
Imperial Customs corvette (1/484) 37,19m
Maraduer Corvette (1/500) 39,04m
Lancer Frigate (1/556) 44,94m
Vigil Corvette (1/561) 45,42m
Nebulon B Frigate (1/608) 49,35m
Carrak Cruiser (1/660) 53,07m

I know there would be no reason for FFG to use this formula, maybe they do it randomly, but it gives perspective of the sizes.

Yeah at these sizes their pretty flipping big I went with 1:500 because it gave me a nice even number to work with.

Btw Mel i know its off topic and 3d modeling is a lot of work but will we see the old republic x-70b phantom on shapeways :P

And that's why the Vigil won't happen.

EDIT: I mean really. Do you really want to pay nearly two hundred dollars for a brand new imperial ship that would take up half the board in epic play, and thus probably couldn't even move?

Do you really want the Vigil?

Edited by Captain Lackwit

Ive been asked about that one before and I always said no because of the size. But as I think about it, both the Fury class Interceptor and the XS light freighter had to be re-sized because the Old Republic sizes dont make sense (because they scale them after they do the interior of the ships).

That game sets the Fury Interceptor as 100m and the XS Freighter is 88m which dont make sense. So I guess if the X-70b is 80m long, I could change its size too.

In this video, for example, you can see it next to some Liberator fighters and its not as big as 80m:

Yeah. SWToR made its player ships WAY too massive.

Just look at this sh*t.

Took this pic a while back of my character standing next to the door of his BT-7 Thunderclap.

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS DOOR

rendili-hyperworks-bt-7-thunderclap.jpg

WHY IS IT SO POINTLESSLY MASSIVE!?

I couldn't get into old republic bought it played for a month and can'ed the subscription but i do love the design of that agents ship for some reason. Even if they are crazy huge.

I think Mel's got it right they need to make the insides of the ship way to huge so they can feel roomie enough for the third person camera.

If the fighters are about 9m long id say who ever dreamed up the 80m mark is crazy looks half that at the most probably even closer to 30m. The ship scale must be changing im sure the games art assets are different from the ground and the space sections. I bet the original concept artists designed the ship to be around the 30m mark like the falcon and then the game play guys were all like we can fit out stuff in there make it bigger, so everything just got scaled up.

Here you go again... getting all mad because people call you out on your made up stuff. Then if we call you out for being as mad as a disgruntled crazy hornet because we do not treat you like a hero... you have been suddenly attacked by meanies.

Oo-Tay me a big mean ole meanie!
