Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I've mentioned it before but what are people's thoughts on the Sentinel Assault Shuttle as a small Imp epic? It's three times the size of the Lambda so I feel is too large for normal play. It also has lots of weapons including missile launchers and turrets. Given it's size and weapon load would it make a good one or two epic point ship?

I think the Sentinel is only 38 meters.

I think the Sentinel is only 38 meters.

Size is more than length. The Sentinel is significantly more voluminous than the Lambda. Stat wise it had 25 percent more armor, and four shield generators. For weapons it has eight fire-linked laser cannons, ion cannon, repeating blasters and linked missile launchers. This thing is too burly for normal play.

Size is more than length.

Yeah girth matters too!

Oh trust me, I know it won't turn into a capital ship game. If for no other reason than nobody could possibly afford that. :P

Love can find a way.

"Love isn’t something we invented. It’s observable, powerful, it has to mean something... Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space."

Excellent reference :)

I think it'd be great to have a Sentinel. It wouldn't be quite epic scale. Some of the criticisms leveled against it include its similarity to the Lambda, but my opinion is that they are distinct enough to warrant it being included (like YT-1300/YT-2400).

I'd be on board for the Sentinel. It was even added to the movie (ANH, I think, in the "Look, sir. Droids!" scene)

But it would be a pretty small Huge.

But then it contends with the Gozanti that way, which is absolutely no bueno to me.

Unless...

Unless The Gozanti is The Imperial huge, it's cheaper than the Corvette, and you can field far more of them than a Rebel can field a corvette, giving Imperials...

...Some whacked out large swarm ship option in Epic.

One point epic? I'm all for that. Bundle it up with great cards, no extra ships, it's all good!

Then add the 4-point Vigil Corvette and everybody can be happy!

Additional points: This is in accordance with the fundamentals of Imperials: Some ships are just thrown in swarms, some are elite. The Rebel epics have good support capabilities, good synergy, while the Imperial should have mass-produced, cheap ships along with some more advanced ships.

What sort of stats would you give the Gozanti? And what would be the best way to represent its transport capability?

A'ight, I'm going to just come out and say it. Could we not have the carrier aspect of the Gozanti matter in game rules? Could it please just be a CnC ship with light armament? I feel like bringing in some 'Carrier' or 'Docking' mechanic is beyond pointless. Like at what point in a game of epic am I going to spend four turns to send my TIE fighter back to the Gozanti for any reason? Epic is not overly complicated as it stands right now but the rules for an Epic huge ship are quite a bit more than normal standard. Won't a carrier rule kind of just make it a bit too much? At least as far as some of the suggested carrier rules are concerned I can't imagine using any of them. I don't want to be a kill joy for the carrier rule supporters but wouldn't you rather have like an 'Issue Order' or 'Coordinate Fire' action or something instead?

The only aspect that would work is if the Gozanti had the ability to drop tie fighters around it when it got close to its target. So a handful of ties are protected by the shields of the huge ship until they get released into combat.

The idea of sending them back in for rearmament is completely impractical in the fast timing of an x-wing dogfight.

I think the only practical way of having the carrier is to just have them launch. I like Sergovan's idea of an "Issue Order" or "Coordinate Fire" action though. How would you represent that?

I wish I could take the credit but it was Force Sensitive who had those ideas.

And it will continue to get longer the more we are left to speculate on what the Empire Epic ship is...

Look when this thread was started.

A way that the carrier aspect could be simulated is, say, a points discount on the TIEs that it's supposed to launch, as well as perhaps shields while the TIEs are docked. I certainly like the idea of it as a coordinating platform.

Once again, you've found a way to speak the truth.

It's Hobojebus.

The problem with having them just launch is that it really doesn't gain you anything. Even having them protected by the Gozanti's shields or whatever doesn't help when you take into account that while they are docked they don't shoot either. Arguably it extends your deployment zone by giving you a second wave area but that really doesn't net you anything either per se. A point reduction is an unique Idea, but why not just simplify it and make the Gozanti cheaper by the same point cost. As scenario rules, now maybe there you could play with the idea of a special carrier rule. But I'm hoping for an action bar that reads Reinforce, Recharge, Jam, Officers Orders or some other new Epic action type. And a Firepower-4 gun no target lock without a crew, team, mod, or title.

I'd call it 'accurate cynicism'.

I think people will just be happy to have a Huge Imperial ship on the board.

People would have the right to be upset if they released the Decimator and YT-2400 before the Falcon and Firespray, because the Falcon and Firespray are obvious choices for Large ships.

There is clearly no obvious choice for a Huge Imperial ship at this scale. I mean, we are talking expanded universe here.

So I think the majority of people will be happy. As long as it looks cool ;)
